The new 'My Sunshine City' campaign employs brand ambassadors from a group of diverse demographics and industries to tell St. Petersburg's story using their very personal sunshine and experiences.

This week, Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin and Healthy St. Pete Director Kim Brasher traveled to Washington, D.C. with other leaders from around the country to celebrate our shared commitment to building healthier communities. The White House event commemorated Let's Move! Cities, Towns and Counties reaching 500 communities, resulting in nearly 80 million Americans impacted by the program.

The New Priatek Plaza
On Thursday, September 17, Mayor Kriseman, Priatek CEO Milind Bharvirkar, St. Petersburg Chamber President & CEO Chris Steinocher, Members of the Pinellas County Commission, and other community leaders cut the ribbon at Priatek Plaza, formerly One Progress Plaza. Priatek Plaza is the tallest building in Pinellas County.

10 News: St. Pete Mayor Kriseman thanks Ofc. Doss in helping suicidal man   
 
Officer Doss was the first to arrive on the scene Saturday afternoon where a man clung to a road sign while precariously standing on the concrete guardrail, 90 feet above Tampa Bay.

Doss is not a police negotiator, but he was able to rely on his compassion and understanding to help the man down from the ledge, about an hour after the initial call was made.

WFLA: Hofbrauhaus opens in St. Petersburg as part of growing beer industry 
 
This week Hofbräuhaus opened in St. Petersburg, becoming part of Florida's growing beer industry. "It's a destination location. It's where we want families to come," Travis Horn of Hofbräuhaus said.

Hofbräuhaus was founded in 1589 in Munich, Germany. The company is now expanding into some American markets.

10 News: St. Pete Food and Wine Fest stands apart from rest 
 
The festival kicks off the evening of Thursday, Sept. 24 with a Charity Pairings Dinner at The Birchwood. It takes place in the hotel's grand ballroom and proceeds will benefit the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance.

"It's going to be amazing," says Stone. "Chef Cline has put together a six course farm-to-table dinner like nothing I've ever seen."

Tampa Bay Times: Tomalin in D.C. at First Lady Michelle Obama event 
 
Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin and Healthy St. Pete Director Kim Brasher traveled to Washington, D.C. on Wednesay to celebrate St. Petersburg's contributions to First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative. 

Obama's campaign encourages physical activity before and after school, healthy school meals and early care and health-education programs.

This may come as a surprise to the St. Petersburg City Council, but staging an IndyCar road race is not the same thing as one of those old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies where someone shouts, "Hey I've got an idea! You get the cars. I'll get the drivers! We'll drop the checkered flag this weekend! It'll be great!"

The new name topping Pinellas county's tallest building makes a statement about the company and some people hope, St. Petersburg.

"Priatek Plaza" was dedicated with a formal ribbon cutting Thursday, even though inclement weather impeded installments of the sky high name tag.

St. Petersburg Tribune: 'Priatek Plaza' towers over downtown St. Pete 
 
Pinellas County's tallest building has a new name, and one that city promoters say will boost the county's technology image, as well.

The 28-story office building at 220 Central Ave., previously known as One Progress Tower, has been renamed Priatek Plaza, where politicians and business people gathered Thursday to announce the change as the new signs went up.
