The countdown is on....

The LO300 is just around the corner and if you are like me, you are trying to check off all the boxes to ensure that your crew has a safe and rewarding race. Port Credit Yacht Club staff and shoreline race management are primed and ready for your arrival. In order to streamline the paperwork you recently received the skipper's cheat sheet. This is an invaluable guide to make sure you have everything in order for the big day.

2014 is shaping up to be another classic race with almost guaranteed faster finishing times then last year. It should be the first true test of this new X pattern course with real winds, currents and a variety of options. It doesn't get much better. I look forward to doing battle once again and defending the Sperry Cup in what is by far, the greatest yacht race on the Great Lakes.

Sail fast.

LO300 Team Challenge

Pat Sturgeon logo (white ) Once again Pat Sturgeon Yachts will be sponsoring the Team Challenge, which provides funds to our various Junior Learn to Sail or Junior programs.  Teams of 3 boats from the same club competing on the Main Duck Course qualify for this competition regardless of being in IRC or PHRF. For purposes of scoring this event all boats will be ranked overall in PHRF and the team with the lowest points will win.

Get your team together, give it a name and bring some glory to your club.

Submit your team names prior to registration to [email protected]

A special thank you to Pat Sturgeon of Sturgeon Yachts, a veteran competitor in this event and a great supporter of offshore racing.

LO300 Solo Challenge Report / LO600 Challenge report

It is only 17 days until the start of the 2014 Lake Ontario 300 Solo Challenge, and the Lake Ontario 600 Solo Challenge (for 7 of us).  By now all of your plans are starting to take shape.  If anybody has ANY questions about either of these events, please contact Brent Hughes and he will get them addressed.

To date there are 7 Solo Sailing yachts competing in the LO600, along with the 3 fully crewed boats. All LO600 competitors will be inspected before the start of the Race, so please be sure to be ready to go, upon arrival at PCYC.....the safety committee will be waiting for usYou will need to send an email to [email protected], 96 hrs prior to the race, in order to schedule a time to be inspected for the race.  Please do so at your earliest convenience. Finally, all of the yachts finishing the LO600 will receive an LO600 Participation Flag, and be recognized at the Fall LO300 Banquet.  In addition, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place Flags will be awarded in the fleet.  All boats will be racing together as one fleet - fully crewed vs double-handed vs single-handed.  Brent Hughes is trying to arrange for a very special LO600 trophy; but the details are being kept secret at this time....

All the information for the race can be found at www.yachtscorring.com, www.loor.ca, and/or www.solosailors.org.  It can be a little confusing, especially if this is your first event, so feel free to get in touch with Brent Hughes at any time.
