As 2013 has come to an end Past President

Cheryl B. Bella, MAI would like to share some final thoughts

Fellow Members,

My year as the 2013 president of the Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute has now come to a close. I'd like to thank the 2013 Board and Committee members for their active participation over the year, and our Executive Director's service.   I'd also like to thank the membership for giving me this opportunity to serve over the past four years as part of the board. I am looking forward to continuing my service in 2014 as Past President.

This year has been a year of transition, a year where we have made the effort to move the chapter into sync with national, advance our chapter in social media, improve communication with membership and utilize our specialized knowledge and skills to help appraisers around the state through consultation with the Louisiana Real Estate Appraiser Board.

Members of this year's board have actively participated in regional conferences, attended regional meetings and attended the national meeting in Indianapolis.    We have brought recognition to the Louisiana Chapter, through actively participating in these activities and seeking national recognition for our chapter for its progress, particularly on governmental relations.

Our progress has been huge, but we have a ways to go. We offered this year our first chapter meeting presented as a webinar.   Constant contact indicated our attendance to be 71 members. The meeting lasted under an hour and the responses to the meeting were very positive. Comments included:

It was the BEST chapter meeting I have been a part of in ALL the years I have been with AI....

Wow! Great Online Meeting!  May I have your PowerPoint as a template for future meetings?  I think someone from the National and/or Regional Leadership would have benefitted from seeing your presentation.

Nice job, great use of technology.

I think that is one of the best methods for the meetings in my perspective. Being I live far from the usual meeting places, it has been difficult to attend any of them.

Great job to all who made this possible.  This on-line meeting was fantastic and everyone loved it.  We should try to have one like this at least once a year, and see if when we have these meeting(s) in the future we can get CE credit from Appraisal Institute.

Although we are moving in the right direction, increasing new membership, achieving four new designated members in 2013, improving communication with chapter members, not all change will be perceived as positive. Unfortunately, our long term Executive Director, Dee "Marcus" Fazzio, has decided to end her position with the Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and pursue other opportunities. She will be missed by our membership, who, over the past 20+ years have enjoyed her association with our chapter. She has been dependable over the years to be at AI educational offerings, answer any questions we had regardless of what time we called, and has provided a positive view of the Appraisal Institute at every opportunity availed. We will miss her dependability and positive attitude and wish her the best of luck in the future. We wanted to celebrate her years with the chapter, but in typical Dee fashion, she insists that this is not about her, and she didn't want the celebration. This parting is an emotional parting, leaving many fond memories for our chapter members. Good luck Dee and Thank You!

With that, I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, and thank the 2014 Board for their willingness to serve us, the members of the Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, this upcoming year. Please support our chapter through volunteering and attending our chapter educational offerings. I hope to see you at USPAP on January 16th in Metairie!

Sincerely,

Cheryl B. Bella, MAI

2014 President

Zac Derbes, MAI

Thank you for electing me as your 2014 President of The Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. It is my privilege and an honor that I do not take lightly to be serving as this year's President. I will do my best to serve our chapter and with your help I am sure we will have a successful year.

I would like to say thank you to our Past President Cheryl Bella, MAI, the entire board of directors and members that volunteered their services in 2013 for their unprecedented service to our Chapter. I would also like to thank Dee Fazzio for her service to our chapter and wish her well in the future.

In the coming year we are planning on providing quality and convenient education opportunities, as well as some social events that will allow some peer to peer communications between all appraisers this year and going forward.

We are currently planning the upcoming education classes and want you to know we are listening and if you have any suggestions for upcoming classes or courses that you would like to attend please do not hesitate to contact the chapter with your suggestions.

I look forward to meeting many of you on Thursday, January 16th, at the NOMAR Office for the 2014 USPAP class. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any issues and or concerns relating to the appraisal profession.

Upcoming Education Offering

The LA Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will host USPAP 7 Hour Update Class

The Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute will be offering the 7-hour Uspap Course

This one-day update course, copyrighted by The Appraisal Foundation, focuses on recent changes to USPAP requirements for ethical behavior and competent performance by appraisers. The course, which clarifies several commonly misunderstood aspects of USPAP, will aid appraisers in all areas of appraisal practice seeking updated competency in USPAP, including those subject to state licensing or certification and continuing education requirements imposed by professional organizations, client groups, or employers.

NOTE: An appraiser must successfully complete the 7-hour USPAP Update Course every two years to meet the USPAP continuing education requirement.

The appraiser can take the 15-hour USPAP course, but it will only count for hours toward his or her state's continuing education requirement; the 15-hour program will not meet the USPAP continuing education requirement.

Course price does not include a copy of the current USPAP edition, which is required for course credit. Attendees must bring their own copy of the USPAP edition to class.

To purchase a copy please visit The Appraisal Foundation by clicking here.
