Pastor Gerry Miller will be our speaker for a two-part Apologetics Seminar on "Why Should I Trust the Scriptures?"

And Dr. John Lennox from Oxford University will be the speaker at our first Annapolis Annual Banquet on Saturday, Apr 16, 6pm at the Doubletree Hotel. Invitations will go out for this event in the next 60 days.
In last month's newsletter, we offered an introduction to "The 8 Traits of a Disciple of Jesus", and committed to cover all eight traits over the next eight newsletters. I use these traits to disciple someone who wants to know and follow Jesus better. The first and last of the eight newsletters contain the introduction and conclusion respectively along with the 1st and 8th trait. If you find this useful, you are welcome to have the "Eight Traits" in their entirety for your discipleship purposes.
Eight Traits of a Disciple:
Trait 2. A follower of Jesus loves God.
In Matthew 22:37 Jesus said; "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength." What is love? Is it a feeling, can it be commanded as Jesus commands it?
C.S. Lewis said "Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained." (2) What then does it mean to love God? May I suggest that loving God means everything I do is to promote God's goodness, His glory?
Our love for God is proportionate to our understanding of God's love for each one of us, His children. By meditating upon Jesus, His character and His sacrifice on the cross, we can more fully understand the cost He paid for our forgiveness. Jesus taught there was no greater vocation in life than being a lover of God. This was His mission... "The world must know that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me." (John 14:31)
Do you love God? Is it your intent to bring glory to Him in all that you do? Do you have behaviors or attitudes that displease God? Are there some coming to mind now that you need to renounce? Do you need to recommit your life to promote God's ultimate good and glory?
