The INvisible Project

Photography and stories to illustrate the day-to-day struggles of real people living with chronic pain.

The goal is to make visible the experiences and challenges that are oftentimes hidden, ignored or misunderstood.

U.S. Pain Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the 2015 INvisible Project this January!

We would like to acknowledge and thank our upcoming participants - Anthony Ameen, Casey Cashman, Emily Lemiska, Guy LoPresti, JP Summers, Lynne Popadak, Melanie Dickens, Michele Rice, Nick Duggan and Robert Foley - for being a part of this profound campaign.

Summer Fun!
June 2015
To My Fellow Pain Warriors and Friends:

The U.S. Pain Foundation is happy to say we have been extremely busy preparing for upcoming events! We are preparing INvisible Project launches across the country, an advocacy summit for U.S. Pain Ambassadors to help further our reach in legislation, Take Control of Your Pain Days, and Pain Awareness Month!

Since September's Pain Awareness Month is just around corner, we have begun to prepare for our numerous awareness campaigns and events we spearhead each year. We are looking forward to YOU helping us further chronic pain awareness through our programs such as Beautify in Blue, pain awareness month proclamations and Macy's Shop For a Cause

As we want to have our members more involved in our awareness efforts this Fall, please feel free to contact us with any questions you have regarding our Pain Awareness Month's campaigns. We will continue to provide you information as September approaches.

Thank you for being a part of our mission - to improve the lives of those living with pain by validating chronic medical conditions and educating others. You are all pain warriors, and U.S. Pain is here to help.

Wishing you all a low-pain and high-spirits day,

Paul Gileno

Founder & President, U.S. Pain Foundation

Preparing for September's Pain Awareness Month with U.S.  Pain

September is recognized as Pain Awareness Month internationally, however individuals still know very little about chronic pain and the over 100 million Americans that suffer from pain. That's where WE come in! It is our job to teach others about the various types of chronic pain we suffer from. This year U.S. Pain is asking all of our pain warriors to get involved in one of the various programs we have.

Get a proclamation from your town or state declaring September Pain Awareness Month:
Send an email to Director of Motivation and Development, Keith Volker, stating the town or state you would like to submit your request to. This prevents duplicate efforts from our Pain Ambassadors.
If a state has already been taken by a fellow Pain Ambassador, we are requesting that you submit to your local town leaders for approval!
Contact Keith at:

Beautify your town in Blue!
If you are interested in highlighting the bravery of fellow pain survivors, I invite you to decorate your towns in royal blue with ribbons and signs. U.S. Pain Foundation supplies the materials, you supply the passion and willingness to raise awareness! (There is no cost to participants as U.S. Pain will include a shipping label for you to return signs and unused ribbons at the end of the campaign).
You will need to complete a commitment form for your city or town. Once completed, I will email you the Beautify in Blue Campaign Letter to be submitted to your local governing body.
Please contact Shaina Smith for the paperwork:

Shop for a Cause:
U.S. Pain Supporters pay $5 for a coupon which will provide them with 25% off at Macy's registers on August 29th.
To make purchasing your discount coupons more convenient, our Pay-Pal link will be available. U.S. Pain is thrilled to be participating in Macy's Shop for a Cause and will provide members with further information on this fundraising initiative in the coming weeks!

Summer Tips

Summer is here and in order to have the best summer possible, U.S. Pain would like to remind you of a few tips to make that a reality!

1.) HYDRATE! We cannot stress the importance of hydration enough. The best way to go about this is having a water bottle with you at all times that you can easily refill wherever you are! You may also want to add other sports drinks like Gatorade or Smart Water to your daily mix.
2.) Continue a healthy, proper diet! Although the heat and humidity may cause lack of appetite, it is vital to continue your regular diet! Summer doesn't mean free pass on all meals, doctors' orders still apply! But maybe treat yourself a little once and awhile!
3.) Keep cool! Whether that means carrying iced water around, heading to the local pool, or purchasing a house fan, do your best to stay cool!
4.) For parents...if your kids nap, you may want to take a nap right along with them. If they don't nap, spend some down time with them so both you and your children can relax. The summer sun can take a lot of energy out of you (and your children!) so take some time each day to relax.
5.) Listen to your body! This is important all year-round, so don't neglect your body just because it's summertime!
6.) Find some cheap, fun activities to do on our Pinterest account! There are all sorts of activities to do on our Pinterest account, check them out and see if you can't find something to entertain yourself!
7.) Prepare for Pain Awareness Month! All of the steps are above.
