Club

Have you scored a 2 on a hole at an EWGA event? If so, did you know you're eligible to join the Two Club? This is a virtual women's golf club whose members have been invited to join because of that great score. The magic of this club is that when you make a 2 on a hole and your playing partners are members of the Two Club,

they each pay YOU $2.00.

We're re-introducing the opportunity for our Chapter golfers to become members! We only require that you make a 2 at an EWGA event - either 9 or 18 hole round. You do not need to be playing with another Two Club member.

Here's how it works ... if you make a 2 on a hole - that's your opportunity to join the Club. You purchase the Two Club Pin for $5 from the Event Captain - then go to your bank and pick up some $2 bills to keep in your golf bag. Use a pen or marker to write your name on those bills and have them available at your next golf outing. When you're paying someone for their great shot, write down the course, date & hole number on the $2.00 bill before presenting it.

If you joined the Two Club through a different organization, just keep your pin on your golf bag and be prepared with $2.00 bills at our EWGA outings - we honor ALL Two Club members. If you are not yet a Two Club member, don't worry - it will happen! Remember that the Two Club is just another way to add some fun to our outings. There is no obligation!

The folklore is very rich with this Club. First, your $2.00 bill is supposed to come back to you. Second, this is an international club, which means wherever you play, your partners may be Two Club members.

Keep the pin on your bag and when you reach that first par 3, ask your partners if they're members, too ... and start collecting the money!

The Cup Experience
Team Play in the World of Golf

By Kris Corbridge

How many times have you watched the Solheim and Ryder Cup matches and thought how fun it must be to play that type of head to head competition?  Not alone, as is usual in the game of golf, but as a member of a team. The very nature of the competition creates different levels of stress, glory, expectation, and motivation than what we experience when we play as individuals in traditional stroke play events.

As a member of EWGA you have the rare opportunity to experience this same exciting level of competition. This year the Sacramento Chapter along with our neighbors from Stockton were able to field a team for the EWGA Cup Championship which was held at PGA National, in West Palm Beach, FL.

This year the team was formed based on interest, and the 8 ladies who committed their time and money in early May, worked diligently on learning the nature of match play in preparation for the Sectional Event at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in early September. We initially held discussions on rules specific to match play, then later in the summer had several practice sessions where we put our knowledge of rules and strategy to the test as well as working on various concepts of course management.

Both the Sectional and Final competition consists of one day of Four-ball (two person better ball) matches, and one day of singles matches. Our team, named "River City Positrons" to reflect our commitment to positive mental attitudes, came out on top of the field during the Sectional event winning 11 of the 12 points. This was the best win/loss record of all the sectional events across the country. Four teams qualified from each qualifier, we were the only California team and therefore not only represented Sacramento and Stockton, but California in the Championship event.

Though the camaraderie was great during the early preparation, it was even more prevalent during the Championship competition. Team members supported each other, strategized, practiced together, socialized together and generally fully experienced the event as a team. It was something that will not soon be forgotten. Playing the "Bear Trap" was certainly exciting in and of itself, but to share the experience between the 8 of us was priceless. Though we did not win as many matches during the Championship event, we came in 5th out of the 25 teams that competed, and had the best "quality of wins" across the entire field. We all felt we had represented our chapters and State quite well indeed. As team Captain, I could not be more proud of our entire team.

Of the 8 players, 6 went on to play in the Cal Cup the next weekend in Monterey, 3 on the Sacramento team and 3 for the Stockton Team. Sacramento won that event and Stockton came in 3rd.

Anyone interested in the team concept of match play should watch for information regarding the formation of both the EWGA Cup and Cal Cup teams. It is a huge commitment of time and money, particularly for the EWGA Cup Competitions, but well worth it to experience this type of play. This next year the Sectional Event for the EWGA Cup will be held in Oregon during the month of September, and the Championship will be in Florida early in December. The Cal Cup will be in October in Southern California.

New Year's Financial Resolutions You Can Keep

"New Year's Resolutions. You're expected to make them, but not expected to keep them. Well sort of anyway. It's a clich. And why New Year's Resolutions and not Mid-Year Resolutions? Unless you've discovered that magic potion and are going to turn over a new leaf, New Year's resolutions, if we must make them, have to be practical, manageable and sustainable. Otherwise, it's pretty much a big waste of time and a drag on your psyche. But here I am writing another article about resolutions and hoping that you'll take to heart at least one of the actions mentioned below. Why not, right? It's worth a try."
