Minnesota Contemporary Quilters

Monday, October 28, 6:30 pm

@Textile Center
Jeannie Spears, one of the founders of Minnesota Quilters, will present: Thanks for the Memories. She is often inspired to make quilts based on photographs taken while traveling. However, their designs have become more sophisticated and challenging over time, starting with simple block-by-block quilts to creating photo collages. She'll show some of the quilts, tell some of the stories, and explain some of the challenges and solutions. Admission free to MCQ members; $5.00 to others. Art Outside the Box

Saturday, November 2, 1-3 pm

Bryant Square Recreation Center

Member Gail Katz-James had her piece Entwined 1 chosen to be wrapped around electrical boxes around the city. "Art Outside the Box" is a walking tour of the new graffiti-deterring CARAG art installations, hosted by the Uptown Association. The art installations include 13 artistically wrapped utility boxes placed throughout the CARAG neighborhood, featuring four designs by local artists Kirk Sklar, Mark LaCroix, Cindy Lindgren and Katz-James. Event will also feature some guest speakers form the city to discuss graffiti prevention in our community. Artists' very brief commentary about their art from 2 - 3 pm. Congrats, Gail! More information
