Tuesday, September 1: Literacy Across Harlem Day turns 3!
Join us as we celebrate the three-year anniversary of the Literacy Across Harlem Day movement.
On September 1, 2012, TEN and our community partners began encouraging Harlemites to "#RockThoseReads"--serve as role models for reading, and spark reading-related conversations, by carrying reading materials proudly and publicly.
Mark the three-year milestone this Tuesday, September 1, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on the corner of 104th Street and Lexington Avenue in El Barrio, with a special "#RockThoseReads Street Team" community service project.
Bring a book to join our street-corner "read-in" and "read-out," help hand out lists of books about Harlem, and be among the first to receive a brand-new Spanish-language version of our beautiful Literacy Across Harlem Day flyer!
Don't forget to tweet or instagram a "selfie" or "groupie," reading materials of the day in hand, to @TotalEquityNow with the hashtag #RockThoseReads.
Because it takes a Harlem!

Tribute to Walter Dean Myers
Each year, Total Equity Now dedicates the Literacy Across Harlem March to the memory of
Walter Dean Myers
, the brilliant children's book author who joined the ancestors last year. Myers, who grew up in Harlem, wanted to make sure that young people of color saw themselves, their families, their communities, and their cultural and ethnic backgrounds reflected in literature.
