Free Tax Preperation - The Westland Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh Rd. will be assisting residents by offering free tax preparation.  This program was developed for those who are low to middle income, and they also provide the Home Heating Credit. Must present photo ID at the times taxes are done. Joint returns are done in the morninig, individual returns in the afternoon. To make and appointment, please call 734-722-7632.

 

Buddy Up 2.0 Fitness Program- The Buddy Up 2.0 Program continues at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15.  Participants will meet at the Westland Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh Rd. for weigh-ins, training and exercise.  

 

Presidents' Day to Alter City  Hours - City offices will be closed in observance on Presidents' Day on Monday, February 17.  This includes the 18th District Court.  The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be open and trash pick-up and recycling will not be affected.

 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

- There will be a  Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting held on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

- There will be a Disability Concern meeting held on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 - The Westland City Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. in the Council Conference Room in  Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

- There will be a Housing Commission meeting held on Wednesday, February 19 at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey St. 

 - The Food Commodities distribution  will be held Thursday, February 20 at 10 a.m. in the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey St.

Mike Modano Presidents' Week Activities - The Mike Modano Ice Arena will have special activities to celebrate the week of Presidents' Day.  On Monday, February 17 there will be a free open skate from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  There will also be open skates at regular pricing Tuesday, February 18 - Friday, February 21.  For times on open skates throughout the week, please contact the Mike Modano Ice Arena at (734)729-4560, located at 6210 N. Wildwood. 
 
 Mother/Son Sports Night- The Wayne-Westland Parks and Recreation Center will hold a Mother and Son Sports Night on Thursday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m.  This event is a special opportunity to create memories between mothers and sons.  This will be a fun-filled evening of sports, games and food!  Tickets are $12/Couple or $16/mom with 2 sons for residents and $13.Couple or $18/mom with 2 sons for non-residents.

 

Throwing Strikes for Historic Village Park- Come out to Vision Lanes on Saturday, February 22 at 12 p.m. for an afternoon of bowling, food and prizes! Tickets can be purchased in advanced for $20 at the Museum from 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays.The museum is located at 857 N Wayne Rd. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $25. A ticket includes 3 games, free shoe rental and 2 slices of pizza. Vision Lanes is located at 38250 Ford Rd. 

 

Mike Modano Ice Arena - The Mike Modano Ice Arena offers an open skate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m., Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. - 3:20 p.m., Sundays from 3:30 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. and a Glow Skate every Friday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.   The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
