June 9-13: Volunteer to help check-in participants between 5:15-6:00pm.  Volunteers are welcome to participate in the activities after completing duties!

US Senior Open

Scramble at Wildhawk!

MAY 24, 2014 

 

Wow!!  What a wonderful event.  We had eight teams competing -- the teams were put together by the committee, Pam and Shelley.  We had several last minute cancellations, but we were able to fill their spots with our newest member, Cindy Merrall, her sister and potential new member, Connie Montrose.  We also had Mindy from Wildhawk join us.  We assigned team handicaps to all teams to even out any discrepancies in ability.

 

After all was said and done, it ended up in a card off to determine the winner.  

 

The winning team was Leslie Lang, Joella Mueller, Charlotte Wells, and Jill Thomas with a net 66.  First place winners each received a round of golf at Wildhawk donated by the club.

  

Second place went to the team of Kathleen McKilligan, Karen Biscaha, Fran Brolan, and Nancy Lyons.

 

All the other teams were within four strokes so it turned out to be very competitive.

Clare had goodie bags for all teams as we all were winners by participating in this fun event. Several members mentioned we should do this more often!!!

 

We also had closest to the pin contest holes on all par threes with the winners:

Hole # 12 Tillie Melton - 4'3''

June 5, 19, 26 -- Short Game Clinics

Haggin Oaks Short Game Series - Deadline Extension and New Time!

 

Even though the the event description says that registration has closed you may still sign up for any or all clinics in the series!  Please note that there is a new time:  6:00 p.m. to 7:30.  The instructor would like you to arrive at 5:45 to check-in at the bleachers near the driving range.  This promises to be a great series being taught by one of the area's most experienced instructors, Don Pottle.  Our former Sacramento Chapter member, Eloise Anderson writes, from Wisconsin  -  "He is the best teacher I had regarding the fundamentals of the short game.  I wish I could be there -  I need a tune up!"

June 7 -- Fun Play at Bing Maloney

You still have until tomorrow night (Saturday, May 31) to register for the Bing Maloney Fun Play on Saturday June 7.  This is a great chance to play for fun while the rest of the chapter counts all their strokes in the Chapter Championship.  Golf is followed by a BBQ ... what more could you want??

 

 
September 19-21 -- Weekend Getaway

 

I know many of you already have this on your calendars and have booked your lodging - thanks for doing that!  But if you intend to go you should check into housing right away.  If you are a World Mark owner, the units at Greenhorn Creek are the perfect fit for this weekend trip.  And even if you're NOT with World Mark, you can still call (209) 736-8116 or Buck Reed at (209) 729-8175 to reserve space there.  They have 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units - very nice with full kitchens.  There are also bungalows at Saddle Creek and VRBOs all through this area. 

 

As you can see on the flyer, we have 3 golfing opportunities - you can sign up for any or all of them.  These are all great courses and I promise you won't be disappointed!  After Friday's golf at La Contenta, our EWGA member Cathy Wells has invited us to her home on the 9th hole for a wine and cheese party (for a $5 fee).  We have fun games planned, raffles and some 50/50 chances to win cash ... with the proceeds going to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento. 

 

Please let me know if you have any questions about the trip - when I receive your registration and checks, I will acknowledge through email.  Your $150 deposit checks will be held until September 1st at which time the balance is due.  I will give you a week's notice the end of August.  We have 48 spots for the first round at La Contenta and 60 spots at the other two courses.  Don't wait to get registered - and please share this information with your EWGA friends.  See you all in September ... if not before!
