I recently had the opportunity to participate in a discernment retreat. Throughout the weekend, the facilitator drew us to new and deeper reflections, but I found myself continuously going back to one of the first things she said - "Discernment involves risking that God is truly good." Of course, I know that God is good, but the deeper I thought about it, the more I realize that I may not always make decisions based on this premise. Read more...

Alumni Reflection: How was it?

After almost two years, I recently returned to Nicaragua for a week. Like many others, you probably have the same question for me, "How was it?" However, I have found that this seemingly simple question is not followed by such a simple answer. After talking with only a few individuals upon my return, I came to recognize that many individuals have their own preexisting idea of what my "Nicaraguan vacation" was like, many of these ideas taking root in pop culture. Got Grad School on Your Mind? 

It's not too late (or too early) to start thinking about enrolling in a graduate program. Because of your rich service experience, many colleges an universities are likely to be very interested in your application. Here are a couple things you can do to prepare:

Check out an Idealist Grad Fair - Idealist Grad Fairs connect prospective students with graduate schools in fields such as public administration, international affairs, education, public policy, public interest law, social work, nonprofit management, global and public health, theology, environmental science, and socially responsible business. They just announced dates for fairs in 17 different cities. Click here for more details.  

St. Joseph's College Online is offering a special discount for anyone affiliated with the Catholic Apostolate Center. This includes waiver of application fee and a 10% tuition reduction. The Catholic Apostolate Center and Saint Joseph's College Online are working to identify educational needs both online and in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Click here for more details.

Catholic Volunteer Network now hosts discernment retreats for current volunteers and alumni who are contemplating their next steps. Join us for a weekend retreat and enjoy the opportunity to get away from the busyness of life and join with others in the spirit of discernment. We have two retreats scheduled, and more coming soon.

Catholics on Call

Every summer, Catholics on Call hosts a four-day program at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago. This experience is designed for women and men (ages 18 to 30) who may be thinking about a life of service in the Church as a lay minister, religious sister or brother, or priest, and those who are undecided and want guidance in determining how God is calling them.
