Stag on Chevron

The Stag On Chevron symbolizes the cycles of renewal and growth. We gain agility as we leave shyness and solitude for playfulness and joy.
First Days of School
First Day Flowers

This year marks the 98th first day of school for The Harley School. We welcomed over 500 students and celebrated on opening day with First Day Flowers. This is a new tradition where we ask our students to bring in a flower on the first day of school.

Student artwork in The Wilson Gallery

Lyn Parsons, Upper School art teacher, is currently featuring the summer artwork of her AP art students in The Wilson Gallery. The S'mores are a form of art using non-traditional materials. The doll house of playing cards was an original student idea. The tables were for the "Sandy Skoglund" project. She passed along a website to see more  student artwork.

Featured Alumni Writers

James West Davidson '64 recently donated his latest history book, "A Little History of the United States" to our library. One review of the book stated, "This is a little history with a big heart, meant to be savored more than studied, read out loud like poetry, or perhaps sung like a hymn." Go to www.jameswestdavidson.com for more information about the author.

Spencer Ryhs Hughes '05  is a budding author out of New York City. This past summer, he shared that he is currently working on a trilogy. His first book, "No Reflection" is "an action-packed, paranormal thriller teetering on the brink of madness." The follow-up, "No Grave," is now available for pre-order. Go to  thesrhughes.com  for more information about the author.

Former Harley parent Kay Benjamin shared this great picture of Tiara Jackson '12 and Kristina and Jordan Benjamin '15. According to Kay, Tiara is now a senior at the University of Dayton ; she was so gracious to host Kristina when she visited at the end of April. Tiara is also a student assistant for the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs, and was involved in helping to put together great tips for success for the First Year students.

Didrik Soderstrom '08 is participating in the Rochester Fringe Festival. Last night, he did an amazing performance of "Erik and the Wolf," a Scandinavian story about a young soldier that "learns of love and change at the hands of a mysterious young woman and a wood of ancient spirits." John Dolan and I had the fortunate opportunity to see his performance to a near sell out crowd, and it was outstanding. He has one more performance tonight at 10 pm at Writers and Books on University Avenue. Catch it if you can!

Erin Brennan-Burke '15 is taking a gap year in Malawi and Tanzania Africa where she is volunteering for nine months. She recently shared her first days "on the job" in her blog.

We played BINGO with soon-to-be alumni, Class of 2016. Instead of numbers, we gave the kids descriptions and asked them to work within the class to match five in a row. Anyone with five came to my office for a special prize: A Ring Pop! It was a hit and a great way to get to know our senior class.
