For many of us, fall is the time to rethink, reorganize, and redo plans, habits and even attitudes. It is a great time to think about adopting more nutritious eating and exercise habits, creating a healthier indoor lifestyle, and getting your finances straightened out. If you have a garden, enjoy the late season results of your hard work as you plan to put your garden "to bed" for winter or visit the local Farmers Markets to support our food producers and celebrate how fortunate we are to have so much good food available locally. The many festivals and farm events provide opportunities for us all to get outside and get healthier.

Happy October!

Sincerely,

The Food Supplement Nutrition Education (FSNE) program participated in Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week at Patuxent Elementary School, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Parents and students learned about Market to Mealtime is a nutrition education program, developed by Food Supplement Nutrition Education designed to promote more fruits and vegetables. FSNE educator provided educational information using the Market to Mealtime display of in-season produce information, a food tasting, recipe cards, stickers, lettuce seeds, and other print materials and resources.

Dr. Glenda Washington, principal of Patuxent Elementary School described how generating awareness of locally grown produce also provides a platform to explain, "You do not need a lot of money to grow your own fruits and vegetables that will provide necessary nutrients for the entire family."

Parent, Kameelah Temple, stated, "With locally grown produce, you know what is in your food, growing crops help to keep the soil rich, and it is imperative to our Maryland economy.
