Swimming Lessons
 Begin June 2

"Swimming is the most popular summer activity," so says the American Red Cross in an online article on water safety. Further, they advise that "the best thing you can do to help your family stay safe is to enroll in age-appropriate swim lessons."

VSU Continuing Education swimming lessons are available for ages 3 and up (must be fully toilet-trained). There is no upper age limit. Classes consist of five 35-minute sessions during one week for $65. (Week of June 30 - July 3 is a 4-day week for $54.) Morning and evening sessions are available. Class size is limited to 3 students. Classes are broadly grouped into Non-Swimmers and Swimmers. (Call us at 229-245-6484 for definitions and complete information.)

Sessions for ages 12 - Adult will be available for beginners and those with elementary skills.

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the limited space available for each session, registrations for time slots will not be accepted via email, fax, or regular mail. Walk in and telephone registrations only, please! Payment must accompany registration; we cannot reserve spots in swimming sessions until payment is received.

The schedule and complete information will be available on our website May 1.

Counteract those Summertime Blues

"Sometimes I wonder

What I'm a gonna do

But there ain't no cure

For the summertime blues"

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Eddie Cochran, sang this ode to summertime angst in the 1950s - decades before we ever dreamed of having the option of taking online courses. Today, with all the technological advances, summertime can prove to be wonderfully productive whether you are relocating, recertifying, re-training or just exploring your options. Summer doesn't need to be a write-off.

If you have the wanderlust and are considering relocating, this could mean you are also looking to start a new job. Check out 12 Steps to a Successful Job Search ($99) in which a world-renowned author and career advisor will help you identify the job that is best for your needs as you identify your core strengths and competencies.

Teachers often find that there's no better time to get re-certified that when summer brings an end to classroom duties. Online courses offer 2, 3 and 4 Professional Learning Unit (PLUs) options including, instructor-paced, Integrating Technology in the Classroom ($109), and self-aced Reading & Writing in Content Area ($179), and Behavior is Language ($199).

Maybe you are interested in re-training for a new profession. Online offers several "Explore a Career" choices such as Explore a Career in a Dental Office ($99) which lets you consider the many jobs open to you in the dental field and helps you decide which one is right for you.

No matter where you are in your personal life, online courses can take you anywhere, anytime. Turns out, there is a cure for those summertime blues!

Instructor-paced courses begin on a Wednesday in each month.
