-NPC sent 22 to Bud, WV with Appalachian Service Project (ASP). We ripped out rotten bathrooms, fixed plumbing, sided houses, rebuilt floors, and kept a house from falling over. And that was the first day. The two teams put in long hours, had high spirits, and had a great time serving those who clearly needed a helping hand (or 44). When chalk lines, speed squares, and sawzall's become agents of grace, you know God is working as hard as the rest of us. NPC should be VERY proud of its teams.
-NPC sent 20 on 2 trips to British Columbia with Beyond Malibu. Both groups hiked the same route, a beautiful but difficult high traverse through the Coast Mountains. We tackled rugged terrain, we drank pure water, we saw amazing views, we encouraged each other, we swam in cold water, we carried each other's burdens, we read Scripture in wild places, and so much more. Mostly, we were reduced to small, exhausted, & grateful humans who were loved by God and each other. It was the way life should be.
-NPC sent 5 on a pilgrimage to Montreat. Going back brought smiles, hope, and trust for what lies ahead. Rowdy energizers, deep small groups, Lake Susan at sunset, ice cream on the bridge, and the sound of the creek all added to the comfort and security that is extended by God when we are away.
-NPC should be impressed with its young and adventurous, for it also had students biking the West Coast (good job Will Parker!), biking the Netherlands (good job Theo Tel), and biking across the USA (AMAZING job Will Christensen). Not to mention the internships, the Chancel Dramas, the volunteering, and the international travel that I can't even keep track of. This crew has been everywhere and done everything. And they've got more stories than can be tweeted, posted, or emailed. So pull somebody aside and ask 'em to tell you a quick trip story of grace, survival, and salvation. Most have at least three.
The many amazing pictures are posted to the Facebook Group "Nassau's Upper Room." Not on Facebook? That's ok. I'll email you as many as you want.
