A Lady Boomer's "Coloring" Book
Your Guide for Living Life Outside the Lines

Be Brave. Lose the Beige entered the Blogasphere in 2009.  Since that time I've written on a myriad of issues facing women of the Baby Boomer generation, Lady Boomers as I like to call us.  Earlier posts from my 56 year old self addressed topics such as, "What's In Your Empty Nest?", which advocated creating a fun interesting life once your nest emptied out, fil
led back up, and emptied yet again.  (I was a walking, breathing testament to the revolving nest issue as many times as my adult children boomeranged in and out of my home).  Other posts included, "Failure is just Another Word for Creativity.  The post argued, just like in Silicon Valley, where failure is glorified (Failure means you just haven't gotten your success yet), we might have to take a few creative risks re-inventing ourselves as we age into our 50s, 60s, and 70s. Te etering on the edge of my 60s, post topics included, "This Is Not Your Mother's Retirement", encouraging women to re-define their impending retirement.  As I currently inhabit my early 60s, with retirement not really on the horizon, I've turned to the joys of being a grandparent with posts such as, "Great Grandparenting".

I'm honored and humbled by how many of you have been willing to accompany me in this journey.  An earlier post, entitled "Ageism Calls for an Attitude Adjustment" referenced Peggy Klaus' New York Times article-- "Embrace Your Age and Conquer the World".  Klaus wrote, "In spite of, or perhaps because of, ageism, we baby boomers should start to own and even embrace how old we are".  That is what I hope my blog posts can help us all do...embrace our age and the transitions we undergo.

If you have not already done so, I would love it if you would consider subscribing to my blogsite.  It is really easy.  Just click on this link and look on the right hand side of the page under the headline "Don't Miss a Post".  I promise not to overload your inboxes with annoying emails.  Anyone who subscribes will receive a free Be Brave. Lose the Beige E-Journal.  I'll send hard copies of the journal to the first ten to subscribe.  I'm hoping we can stick together as we navigate these pesky passages.

Living In Color Tip #11-
Coloring Books for Grownups

In case you missed it, the following is an excerpt from a post I wrote in June of this year.

In this post, I want to introduce you to Coloring Books for Grownups. Yes, I really mean it, adult coloring books are all the rage right now, largely due to the work of Johanna Basford. The Today Show on NBC did an entire segment on the concept of adult coloring books, which, until Johanna Basford, were virtually unheard of. (Except for those of us who secretly, or perhaps not so secretly, pilfered pages from our kids' coloring books for our own creative coloring) Basford, who describes herself as an illustrator and ink evangelist, took nine months creating her first book, Secret Garden.   This book has sold over a million copies and is selling out all over the world, having been translated in 22 languages. She followed up with Enchanted Forest. The #4 and #8 books on Amazon are not mystery novels or courtroom thrillers, but Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest. (Kids, you better hide your coloring books, grown ups are headed your way.)

Google, Pinterest, and even Johanna Basford's website, have lots of single coloring pages available for downloading. Markers, crayons, and colored pencils serve to transform these black and white illustrations into colorful masterpieces.  Learn more by  clicking here
