City Council and Mayoral Candidates Forum
Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs (ONE-PS) and the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring a City Council and Mayoral Candidates Forum on October 14 at the Jewish Community Center on Alejo Road. The Forum will be moderated by award-winning journalist Hank Plante and shown live on KMIR. The Forum will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., but because of the live TV broadcast, audience members will need to be seated by 5:30 p.m. If you would like to submit questions for the candidates to answer, please email your questions to  [email protected] by Sept. 25. Anyone may submit a question.  Hank Plante, as the moderator, has the final say on what questions are asked and how they are phrased.   Hank will consult with a group of ONE-PS and Chamber volunteers to review the potential questions.  No one who is a candidate, working for a candidate, endorsing a candidate or donating to a candidate will be involved in reviewing the questions or in preparing the questions for the Forum. The questions will not be made known to the candidates before the Forum.

Welcome our new Office Assistant,
Nelva Segura

Nelva is a recent UC Irvine graduate. She majored in Criminology, Law and Society and Social Ecology. While earning her degrees, she was part of a Chicana/Latina sorority known as Phi Lambda Rho. She also volunteered at the Orange County Bar Foundation as a university mentor and interned at Girls Incorporated of Orange County. Through Nelva's extracurricular activities, she found a passion for helping others, especially those pursuing a higher education. With the knowledge she gained from her experiences at UCI, she hopes to one day establish a non-profit in the Coachella Valley that helps low-income and first generation college-bound students.

Nelva was born in Palm Springs and has lived in Cathedral City her whole life. The only time she has been away from the desert was when she left to pursue her bachelor's degrees. She is an only child and the first in her family to graduate from college.

During her free time, Nelva enjoys reading, hiking and trying new foods. One of her favorite places to go hiking here in the desert is at the Indian Canyons. Nelva enjoys downtown Palm Springs' variety of places for dining. She likes to visit the different restaurants, which hit the spot for a foodie like her.

Drop by to say "hi" to Nelva. She will occupy Brittne Watson's office during her maternity leave.
