Spring 2014
Our fiscal year ends on March 31. Please consider making a monetary donation in order to help us reach our year-end financial goals - and in turn make 2014 our best summer ever. You may do so via our website - and thank you!

Summer is Coming!

It might not feel like it quite yet, but summer is right around the corner, which means our facility staff are working day and night to get camp ready for summer.

But they can't do it alone. Students from the Esko Public Schools, alternative spring breakers from The Ohio State University's Buck-I-Serve group, workers from the Challenge Incarceration Program and employees from Fallon Worldwide are just some of the groups that work with dedicated staff to make the site sparkle for our campers.

If you are interested in helping out - whether you are a business, a student group or an individual - you can learn more at www.oneheartland.org/volunteer.

OneFutures

OneFutures is our young adult mentorship program. Youth ages 16-22 are paired with a mentor to co-create goals and develop plans to reach those goals. The program also features life skills courses with lessons in such things as cooking, auto repair, budgeting and resume writing.

Many of the program's participants are former campers, and OneFutures helps them graduate from youth camper to successful young adult. OneFutures is now open to ALL populations we serve. This year's program is July 14-20 at the One Heartland Center in Willow River, Minn. You can learn more here.

A Volunteer's Story

"Camp gives us a chance to figure out who we are, what we stand for and who will support us. It's a place to be recognized for the gifts you bring," says long time volunteer, Alison Feigh. Read her full story on our website

As we near the end of our 2013-14 fiscal year, several generous hosts are throwing fundraising parties as part of our month long Parties with Heart initiative. Parties are being held throughout the United States - in art galleries and in bars, from Milwaukee to Los Angeles.

One party of note is NKB40 for One Heartland on March 28, 29 and 30 at the Northup King Building in Minneapolis, Minn. More than 40 painters from the galleries of the Northrup King are putting together a show and 20% of the proceeds will go directly toward One Heartland's camps. All the NKB40 specifics - including details on the opening night reception - can be found on the event's Facebook page.

For more information about Parties with Heart - or to inquire about hosting a last minute fundraiser - contact our Development Director, Amy Olson, at 888-216-2028 or amy@oneheartland.org
Camp True Colors - Texas

The inaugural Camp True Colors-Texas is happening March 19-23 in Wilmington, Texas. This is the third Camp True Colors program in the United States - the others being in New York and Minnesota - and the programs serve young adults who identify as LGBTQ and who are being served by an out-of-home program. Camp True Colors adheres to our core mission of helping youth who are facing social isolation, and is made possible through a partnership with the True Colors Fund.

HandsOn Twin Cities Volunteer Expo

On Saturday, February 15, we participated in HandsOn Twin Cities' volunteer expo at the Mall of America.

On top of handing out literature and signing up volunteers, guests were able to participate in a "speed volunteering" activity by making birthday cards for our campers.

Thanks to all who took the time to make a card! We know our campers will love them.

Birch Family Camp Announcement

One Heartland has made the difficult decision to close the Birch Family Camp, one of our New York based camps.

Unfortunately, the program we have run since 2007 is no longer a viable option, financially. This was a profoundly difficult decision, but one that is vital for the continued health of our organization.

We want to thank all of the countless volunteers, staff members, donors and families who made Birch such a special place. Even though camp might not be running any longer, it will forever be in our hearts.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Executive Director, Patrick Kindler, at 888 216 2028 x 104 or Patrick@oneheartland.org
We are excited to share our news with you, and we encourage you to contact Matt Becker with any suggestions, comments or other feedback.

If you enjoy this newsletter, please feel free to forward it to friends and encourage them to subscribe, too.

Thank you for reading!
