Dear Dragons,

Although it feels like the fall has just started, two fall sports have entered district play while another is taking a well earned week away from the field. A perennial state champion is ready to return to their season after a week off. So Extra, Extra read all about it here in week 4 of the CABC Enewsletter.

FOOTBALL:

Football finally had a home game this week, taking on Midland Lee to kick off the 2015 home campaign. They did so in grand style, greening out the Rebels with a 52-14 win. The offense scored on 8 of 9 possessions. They leapt out to a 17-0 lead and were never challenged by the Rebs in the game. Mason Holmes had a sparkling night throwing 5 touchdown passes. He was 23 of 33 for 311 yards throwing 3 touchdown passes to Lil'Jordan Humphrey and 2 to Zach Farrar. Humphrey had 4 total touchdowns on the evening, 3 receiving and one on the ground and nearly 300 total yards. Alex Simpson also had his first career touchdown rush on the ground. Zach Farrar also hauled in 2 touchdowns receiving. Kole Ramage made his varsity debut from the kicking position going 7 of 7 on extra points and contributing a field goal.

On defense the team was led in tackles by Robert Barnes with 11, with 9 solos and 2 assists. Barrett Buck also had a fine evening with 7 tackles, 5 solos and 2 assists. IV Seacat had 6 on the night with 2 solo and 4 assists.

The Dragons have the odd middle of non-district bye week this week before returning to action against Abilene on September 25th at Shotwell Stadium at 7:30pm.

Metro Sports is back for their 13th season as the official broadcast home of your Southlake Carroll Dragons. As always Chuck Kelly will provide the play by play with Kelly Milligan providing color commentary. Travis Smith is Mr. Sidelines.

Follow the Dragons on Twitter @slcathletics and like us on Facebook at Southlake Carroll ISD Athletics. Because of the Bye-week, of course there will be no live tweeting of a football game. We will however be providing updates for all other Dragon athletic events.

VOLLEYBALL:

Lady Dragon Volleyball opened 7-6A play by running rough-shod over LD Bell with a 25-6, 25-8 & 25-12 sweep at home last Friday. They then continued their opening week dominance by making quick work of Richland 25-20, 25-11 & 25-10. They are now an unheard of 30-3 on the season and 2-0 in 7-6A play.

They return home this Friday night for a date with Haltom at 6:30pm. They will host Trinity on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:30. And that is Elementary/Middle School Night. They are flying through the regular season and have only 5 home games left in the 10 game remainder of the regular season. Get to CSHS soon to see your Lady Dragons.

In the LoneStarVolleyball.com Texas Top 20 poll the team remains in No. 2, just behind top ranked Dripping Springs. They remain No. 1 for a third consecutive week in the TGCA poll.

CROSS COUNTRY:

Cross Country had a rare week off last week and will return to action with a split squad meet on Saturday, September 19th.  The top 24 boys and girls will travel to Kingsville, Texas for the Javelina XC Invitational while the remaining squad will remain in the metroplex to run at the Marcus ll Invitational.

TENNIS:

null

Dragon Tennis had a 2-0 week defeating Texas High 14-1 and Haltom 19-0. They are now 9-3 on the season. Here's a stat that jumps off the page. In their last 4 matches, Dragon Tennis has only dropped 2 points to the other squads. They have scored a total of 72 points!! Now that's domination!!

Up next they host a round robin tournament at home on Saturday, Sept. 19th vs. El Paso Coronado and Highland Park.
