MICROSOFT ENDING SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS XP APRIL 14, 2014

April 8, 2014: Per Microsoft's official Lifecycle policy on Windows XP, extended support for the platform goes dark on this day. Outside of very critical security flaws that may crop up, no more general patches will be released for the OS to fix functional or security related issues.

What Happens to PCs running on XP After April 8, 2014?
Nothing, really. They will continue to work as normal and there will not be any kind of limitations imposed by Microsoft on the OS crippling its usage. But after 4/8/14 it will be the unknown of what can happen to XP machines that will become more exposed to security threats that should have users of XP planning their conversion off of XP machines prior to that date

Microsoft has publicly stated that no new patches will be released for the OS after April 2014 (outside of very critical security flaws found.)  Customers who purchase new hardware even for otherwise fully capable systems may start to run into compatibility issues. Third party solutions arise to get around these driver issues, but they are not always 100% guaranteed for all scenarios. The bottom line? Using XP after April 2014 is an "at your own risk"situation.

Will Users Still Be Able to Download Patches After April 2014? Microsoft will keep hosting all patches and service packs released through April of 2014, but no NEW updates will be released after this date. It is likely that hackers will start to take advantage of all remaining XP users after this date, and the software will become more and more unstable over time. Anti-malware software support for XP should continue past 2014 but start to drop off over time.

What Should I do if I am running XP on my computers? Customers can upgrade the operating system to Windows 7 or 8 on PCs that are still in good working shape.  Given the age of most XP based machines it probably makes sense to replace XP based machines with new PCs that have faster processors, more memory and larger hard drives at reasonable costs.  Customers still running on XP will probably prefer migrating to Windows 7 because the "look andfeel" is closer to the user interface on XP.  If you are still running machines with XP,
