More from our Spring's Top 10 List:

6. Fresh, CT strawberries, may be ready as early as Memorial Day weekend...be on the look out for PYO farms and farmers markets...check out a list of farms with strawberries here.  Celebrate Strawberry Season with Hindinger Farm and take part in their  Strawberry Festival!

7.  Bring a picnic lunch to one of CT's most romantic gardens, Cricket Hill, during their Annual Peony festival starting early May.  Then go take your kids on a pony ride or take a countryside trail ride at Windfield Morgan Farm.

8.  Start a compost pile, pick up your compost or schedule a compost delivery through Grillo or Collins Compost.  If you're at Collins' farm, make sure to visit Collins Creamery for a delicious ice cream cone and to pick up a pot of herbs from Jen's Bouquets!

9. Choose one day of the week and see if you can create 1 entire dinner using ONLY CT grown ingredients...I bet it will include asparagus and cheese!

10. Improve your culinary prowess by taking a cooking class!  We recommend attending Jones Family Farms 'essential cooking' or 'lets go to the movies' workshops in Shelton or a class given by Silo Cooking School at Hunt Hill Farm in Litchfield.

Kick ass time at the Donkey and Mule Show!

Members of our CT 10% team participated in Bishops Orchards' Annual Donkey and Mule Show & Festival on May 3rd. After a week of rather damp weather it turned out to be a beautiful spring day with the sun shining on all the fun activities.

Our CT 10% team enjoyed signing folks up to "Pledge to go 10% Local", and helped many kids with a button making activity and learned why their families buy locally grown!

Over the course of the day, an estimated 3,000 guests enjoyed the kids' activities, wine tasting and delicious food including the Bishops own "Cider Slush" and the hot and fresh "Maple Kettle Corn" while watching the wide variety of handling, showmanship, carting and obstacle course classes.

One of our favorite classes of the day was the Costume Class! First Place went to the contestant who dressed up as Princess Anna, her brother portrayed the adorable snowman, Olaf and of course her miniature donkey dressed as Sven from the beloved movie "Frozen".

The Donkey and Mule show was very entertaining for all ages and a great opportunity for these donkey and mule enthusiasts to raise awareness of the versatile talents of both these beasts and owners.

Congratulations to all of the many shows participants!

CSA Members - 10% reporting just got easier!

Hurrah for peas, spinach and kale and a variety of cold season crops that are already well established on many of CT's farms! We've been eagerly following CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) to check out what's growing on their farms.

If you belong to a CSA or are considering joining, we've made an exciting update to the 10% progress reports. It is now even easier for CSA members to report their locally grown purchases! In the weekly progress report, as shown below, you can now report the full dollar value of your CSA.
