Today The Episcopal Church Remembers
William Wilberforce

At 4:00 AM on February 24, 1807, the British Parliament overwhelmingly voted to abolish the slave trade and then "rose almost to a man and turned towards [William] Wilberforce in a burst of Parliamentary cheers...while he sat, head bowed, tears streaming down his face."1

This extraordinary moment was the culmination of 20 years of relentless, determined personal and legislative exertion to bring this evil trade to an end. After that Wilberforce would fight another 26 years until the evil of slavery itself was also defeated. Parliament voted to emancipate slaves three days before Wilberforce's death on July 29, 1833.

William Wilberforce is one of history's great examples of unswerving dedication and undefeatable endurance in the cause of justice.

Blessing Bags Are Back

Immediately after the 10:30 service this Sunday, Aug. 2nd, we'll be preparing Blessing Bags once again. They are the bags that we can hand out to the homeless and needy when we stop at intersections for red lights. Please bring healthy snacks that need no refrigeration, wipes, small toiletries, and anything that you can think of that might benefit the homeless, especially during the summer months. We can always use toothbrushes. toothpaste and bottles of water. You can bring some Ziploc or Glad Bags too. The last time we did this, it was well received, and the bags didn't last long. It is especially joyful for families with children to be involved.

School Supplies Drive
The Episcopal Church Women of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection invite you to join us in a School Supplies Drive beginning July 27, 2015 and ending August 23, 2015. We are asking for your help.

Many school age children will not have basic school supplies due to today's economic conditions. We are conducting a School Supplies Drive and are asking for your cash (or check) donation. Your donation will help to buy school supplies in bulk. Please note on your check, "School Supplies Drive." If you wish to make a cash donation, please place in an envelope addressed to "School Supplies Drive." Checks and envelopes may be placed in the offertory during each church service

We appreciate your generosity with this endeavor.
