5th Annual Chili Dinner warms the Winter Air & pleases all.
| | Great Success
It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since we've been meeting at Cornerstone. This year, on February 8th, we met again to shake the winter blues. There was wonderful food, enjoyable conversation, raffle prizes and entertainment. Councilman Ladouceur gave an update on Ward 5 and The Henriques & Al McCreery talked about the polar plunge to benefit Camp Sunshine. A good time had by all.
We had 48 guests, 13 raffle items, 8 chili cooks and raised almost $300 for the association. Stay tuned for next year.
Thank you W.N.I.A volunteers, raffle donors, cooks, and Dottie Santagata & Kim Santilli of Cornerstone.

Welcome to spring on Warwick Neck. Time to shed the layers and clean up the debris along our coast. With the fall storms and winter blizzards this year, there's no telling what we'll find.
WNIA is again coordinating our Cove Overlook Earth Day clean-up on Saturday, April 5th with the Buckeye Brook Coalition, which provides trash bags and arranges trash haul away. If you would like to participate, join us between 9 and noon and get an up close look at this beautiful spot. The City has already supported the clean-up with the removal of downed trees and limbs. Water-proof footwear and gloves are appropriate.
Hope to see you on Saturday! Mark McHugh, President Warwick Neck Improvement Association Inc. |
"The Making of Parks" a Rocky Point Lecture
| |
"The Making of Parks"
Speaker: Deborah Marton, Executive Director of the New York Restoration Project
Date and Time: Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 630pm
Location: The Rhode Island School of Design, Bayard Ewing Building (231 South Main Street), Room 106.
A brief biography of Ms. Marton is below. Needless to say, Ms. Marton is very well-known and well-respected in the field, and I think we're very fortunate that RISD has been able to attract her to Rhode Island for this lecture (at RISD's cost). The lecture is free & open to the public. Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone who may have interest.

Garden Club Helps Reclaim Samuel Gorton Park
| |
| Reclaiming Samuel Gorton Park |
Improvements Abound
A small park to honor Warwick founder Samuel Gorton lies across Warwick Neck Avenue from the Warwick Cove Overlook Park. Members of the Warwick Neck Garden Club watched as the park grew increasingly overgrown and inaccessible. They made plans with Warwick DPW head David Picozzi and in October the park was completely restored! As spring approaches the Garden Club is making plans for new garden beds and is working with the City on maintenance plans to assure that the park remains in pristine condition.
