RECREATION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROJECT MICRO-GRANT
Recreation and Physical Activity Division of the Government of Alberta

The grant supports non-profit organizations working to improve individual and community well-being through physical activity and recreation programs. A maximum grant of $25,000 will be distributed among the successful applicants based on evaluation of the project merit. The application deadline is September 15. ELDER ABUSE RESOURCE MANUAL

Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (cplea) 


The focus of the Let's Talk: Elder Abuse resource manual is on using readily available legal tools in Alberta to discourage elder abuse. The materials also include a facilitator's guide and eight tip sheets on specific topics such as mental capacity and situations when elder abuse involves the police. All materials are also available in French. To request copies email [email protected] or call 780-451-8764.

FIRE SAFETY FOR SENIORS
Alberta's Office of the Fire Commissioner

Fire safety education programs are made available to fire departments and community groups by Alberta's Office of the Fire Commissioner:

  • Older and Wiser: A fire safety education program for older adults
  • Remembering When: A fire and fall prevention program for older adults aimed at a multicultural audience which includes lesson plans, brochures, fact sheets and game cards.

CAREGIVER NAVIGATOR WORKSHOP
Alberta Caregivers Association
Sept 2, Sept 30, Oct 14, Oct 28, Nov 6, Nov 19, Dec 3 and Dec 16 (one day workshop)

The workshop trains health professionals, service providers and community agency staff to better support caregivers by showing how to identify caregivers early in their journey, support caregivers to adopt self-care practices and facilitate caregivers' access to programs/resources and referrals. CARFIT TECHNICIAN
Alberta Motor Association

The Alberta Motor Association is seeking volunteers to help deliver CarFit, an educational program offered free to seniors. Trained technicians will assist seniors to check how well their vehicle "fits" them and to highlight actions for improvement. For example, the CarFit program helps with mirror and seat belt adjustments, correct gas/pedal foot positioning and proper seat adjustment to ensure appropriate distance from the steering wheel.


If you are interested in being trained as a CarFit technician (no cost for the training) and to volunteer at the next CarFit event August 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre, call Caroline for more information at 780-474-8608. Training is 9 a.m. to noon on August 19 at the Kingsway AMA.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Mill Woods Seniors Activity Centre

The part-time Administrative Assistant will perform general administrative duties such as maintaining records, filing, financial and front of office cash clerk related duties. The position will also involve helping to implement plans for special events such as fundraising efforts and other in-centre special activities. Candidates should be a mature self-starter with good oral and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and supply and inventory control skills.
