Plant Humor

How do you know you are a Master Gardener?

1. There is a decorative compost container on your kitchen counter.

2. You would rather go to a nursery than to the mall.

3. You prefer gardening to watching television.

4. You plan vacation trips to arboretums and public parks.

5. Dirt under your fingernails and calloused palms are a matter of pride.

"Your first job is to prepare the soil. The best tool for this is your neighbor's motorized garden tiller. If your neighbor does not own a garden tiller, suggest he buy one. " - Dave Barry

Employee Spotlight

Cleto Zarate, Install/Maintenance
When it comes to friends, Cleto Zarate has been lucky. He had two friends who worked here at Good Earth Plants, and when there was an opening for an installation and horticultural service technician, they thought of him. You see above how well it worked out.

Cleto joined the Good Earth Plants family in 2013. He works his magic with the many plants that live in our client offices and homes. He is the quiet tech who checks the water levels and the health of the greenery and flowering plants that our clients love. Cleto enjoys making replacements and seeing new plants get acclimated.

"I like doing the installations and working with the crew," he says. "It's very important to check the plants' health and make sure they have the right fertilizer," Cleto adds.

When he's not busy at Good Earth Plants, Cleto spends time with his family and likes going to the beach or the park.

Thank you for all you do to Keep It Growing at Good Earth Plants, Cleto.

Welcome Back Kirk Neuroth

Good Earth Plants and GreenScaped Buildings welcomes back Kirk Neuroth. After a brief absence, Kirk is rejoining our staff working with both branches of the company.

Kirk contributes his expertise in horticulture and plantscaping to our clients and we are very glad to have him back on the team.

Letter from the President

Jim in Plants

It's the busy season of conferences and trade shows, absorbing and sharing new information. January started with the Tropical Plants International Expo in Florida. We moved on to the Long Beach, California Landscape Architects Show in February, and wrapped up with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) conference on "Building Healthy Places" in Los Angeles.

It is fun getting out the message on the benefits of living plants in the built environment, and incredibly interesting seeing the direction of architects, builders and developers to be "people centric" at the same time. As an industry we are moving past LEED certification and sustainability into a future where homes, offices, schools etc. are healthy places.  We spend 90 percent of our lives indoors. Our well-being is being taken into account as part of the return on investment.

Good Earth Plant Company wowed the crowd at the San Diego chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) trade show with our living walls and beautifully arranged potted plants. The designers asked lots of questions and thankfully we had the answers.

With all the time and effort being put into our activities outside of the office, I cannot thank the entire crew enough for taking care of our clients at home, allowing me the freedom to get our message out. Danny, Joel, Celso, Dawn and Cleto get credit for outstanding displays; Alexa, Debbie and Kerry for the leadership to keep us going in my absence.  Most of all, Sophie, Maria, Karen and Kirk for keeping our clients more than happy every day.

LPL Financial Living Wall: A Perfect Framework

The crew at GreenScaped Buildings stretched its creativity for LPL Financial to design and install a "Living Frame" for its new lobby. It even comes with a remote control.

LPL Financial wanted something amazing for a high visibility area. The idea grew into a two-sided living wall of greenery surrounding a flat screen on one side. The 360-degree installation came with a few challenges, easily met by the GreenScaped team led by Project Manager Kerry Bauer.

With plants located above and adjacent to the TV, multiple precautions were designed into the system to prevent any possibility of water reaching the electronic components.

Thanks a Bunch!

We are always happy to hear we've done a good job. We thought we would share a very nice thank you we received from our client, Betty McIntyre.

"Our patio looks absolutely fabulous! And so do the orchids inside. You and your staff do a wonderful job. I appreciate all you have done to make our home beautiful. Your staff was so kind installing the extra plants. Thanks again Debbie!"

Thank you Betty for taking time to share your kind words with us.
