Update From The Board of Directors  Update_From_President
Since our last newsletter, Technology for Tomorrow has made great progress. Our volunteers have donated an additional 188 hours of computer classes since November, including our first college workshop AND our first Russian language workshop, and we are now working to provide our services to eight unique communities in Vermont! We've learned a lot along the way, and met some excellent contacts at high schools and senior centers around Vermont. We've also introduced a new board member, Mr. Karl Swanke, and updated our bylaws. Read more below about how we're growing, how you can help by supporting T4T - either through donation or as a volunteer - and catch us at one of our upcoming April workshops.

Recent Workshops & New Partnerships

Rice Student Volunteer Instructor at T4T Workshop in Winooski

After a busy first quarter focused on engaging new instructors and participants in new communities, we have grown to include partnerships with new schools, senior centers, and community centers.

Since the start of 2015, T4T volunteers have contributed over 188 hours of free computer/technology instruction!  We are now offering recurring workshops in:

  • South Burlington at The Pines Senior Living Community & Allenwood Senior Living, featuring volunteer student instructors from South Burlington High School & Rice High School
  • Essex Junction at the Essex Junction Senior Center, featuring volunteer student instructors from Essex High School
  • Winooski at the Winooski Senior Center, featuring volunteer student instructors from Winooski High School & Rice High School.

Click here to see a full list of upcoming workshops on the T4T website!

In addition to these communities, we are also engaged with senior citizen and community centers in Milton, St. Albans, Stowe, and Mount Mansfield before the end of the current school year. If you are an educator or high school student interested in starting a student group in your community and learning more about our T4T scholarship program for VT students, please email our Executive Director.

Т4T Goes to College...
Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our founder and board president,  Neel Desa i,  Technology for Tomorrow recently  broke new barriers: our first workshop in Massachusetts, our first workshop featuring exclusively university  students as volunteer  instructors, and our first workshop conducted in Russian!  Thanks to the volunteer instructors from the Northeastern University Russian Language Club.  T4T is working to deepen our connections with Northeastern and Vermont-based colleges and universities, and is actively seeking more volunteers and participants eager to learn.  Read more about this experience on our blog here!

Т4T Community Donation Program
As T4T is an organization dedicated to making a real impact in the communities we serve.  One way that we are able to do that is through the donation of computer hardware, software, and accessories to senior residences and community centers.  Since the start of the new year, we have donated three AARP RealPad tablets to the Winooski Senior Center, Essex Junction Senior Center, and the Pines Senior Center (South Burlington), respectively. These tablets, which are designed with new users in mind and include easily accessible tech support have been very popular with our community participants and we look forward to donating more of these, and other tech equipment to needy senior centers and community locations throughout Vermont!  For more information about how your senior or community center can become eligible to receive our donated technology, email our Executive Director.

Technology for Tomorrow High School Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications!
While T4T has seen great progress in engaging and impacting new communities in
Chittenden County, we are still actively seeking new student leaders across the state!   High School students that work with T4T to organize a student chapter and volunteer at T4T workshops will be eligible to receive a $1000 scholarship!   We are especially seeking student leaders at Milton High School, BFA-St. Albans, and Mount Mansfield Union High School.
If you know a student leader in these, or any communities in Vermont, who is interested in contributing to T4T and becoming eligible for our scholarship program,  please email Eli Harrington for scholarship eligibility and application materials!

Technology for Tomorrow College/High School Internship Program

For the first time in our organization's history, T4T will host unpaid academic interns for the summer of 2015.  We are primarily seeking 1-2 undergraduate students, but will also consider hosting a high school intern, depending on the individual.  The position is currently unpaid, and the starting/ending dates are flexible.  We are happy to work with institutions to provide opportunities for interns to receive academic credits.  For more information about potential internships, please  email our Executive Director, Eli Harrington, with questions.
How You Can Get Involved & Support T4T:  Donation_Impact
Do you know how your favorite nonprofit organizations spend your donation dollars?   As a self-sustaining, zero overhead nonprofit, 100% of donations go towards programs with direct impact!  This means that every penny we raise goes towards buying hardware to donate to senior centers, scholarships for local high school students, and other direct costs--such as gas and lunch.

A donation of only $25

will fund:     Gas costs for Technology for Tomorrow volunteers to drive a van load of students from a school to a senior center and back again; Light refreshments for students and senior citizens participating in a 90 minute workshop.
undefined

A donation of only $100  will fund:       Purchase of a large print keyboard for senior citizens with visual impairments; Purchase of speech recognition software which will allow senior citizens who are unable to type to write and send electronic correspondence.

undefined

A donation of only $200 will fund:      Rental of a 12-passenger van and gas costs to transport up to 12 student instructors from a local high school to a local senior citizen center; Purchase of an AARP 'RealPad' simplified tablet device, designed specifically for senior citizens and with one-touch 24/7 customer support (all devices we purchase for senior centers come with free T4T instructional workshops!); Purchase of a 'Chromebook' laptop, an easily portable (one pound) and WiFi-ready device that includes two USB ports.
