February has come and gone, it was a busy month with three (3) separate events. The chapter hosted a webinar on the Affordable Care Act, a sold out seminar on Price Analysis Techniques and Strategies presented by Mark Hijar of Procurelinx, and a visit from NCMA's Executive Director, Michael Fischetti (see article below).

March is on track to be another busy month--here is what is on the schedule this month:

  • Our annual National Education Seminar (NES) "Developing Winning Proposals" will be on March 7, 2014 at the Washington Technology Park Conference Center in Chantilly, VA. Do not miss out and be sure to register today.
  • The chapter's regular monthly seminar will be Friday, March 21, 2014, Jenny Hahn, Vice President and Partner of FD Associates, Inc. will cover Export Control Reform and The Impact on ITAR Technology. Registration is now open!

Our Chapter Officers are going to San Diego for the NCMA Spring Leadership Summit to receive our Gold Graalman award which we will display at the April seminar. Let us know if you're attending the Subcontract Management Training Forum so we can meet you in San Diego!

Thank you all for the tremendous support of chapter events in February and hope to see you at one of the March events. As always, if you have any comments or suggestions for the chapter, please let us know by contacting us.

NCMA's Executive Director Visits Us
Mike Fischetti
NCMA Executive Director

Your chapter hosted a visit by NCMA Executive Director Mike Fischetti on February 28. Mike is visiting NCMA chapters to present on "Contract Professionalism Through NCMA." During his presentation, Mike spoke about NCMA's mission of advancing the contract management profession and its strategic objectives:

  • Expanding advocacy and outreach for the profession.
  • Creating widely recognized standards for the profession.
  • Creating programs and services to help people enter in and progress within the profession.
  • Maximizing value for NCMA members.

NCMA works with government and industry executives to achieve is mission. NCMA has formed strategic relationships with organizations such as OFPP, APTAC, AFCEA, DAU, PSC, and over 35 education partners and corporate sponsors. Mike also discussed the Contract Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK), from which all NCMA events and activities obtain their overall goals and objectives.

During the presentation and the open discussion afterwards, Mike talked about the following:

  • The NCMA website is undergoing a complete redesign and is expected to launch later this year.
  • Mike wants to hear from members and ideas we may have that will improve and grow our profession.
  • Members should get engaged and involved with NCMA in order to get the most benefits from membership.
  • Networking is an important component of membership and will earn members a return greater than the investment over the life of our professional career.

In addition to chapter members and officers, several NCMA staff members attended the presentation. The chapter thanks Mike for taking the time to visit and giving us an opportunity to learn about and discuss NCMA's role in our careers.

Spotlight On: Chapter Membership

When you first join NCMA, your chapter is determined by your ZIP Code unless you specify a chapter when you apply for membership. NCMA has designated all ZIP Codes starting with 201 as our chapter's "territory." This covers the Dulles corridor including Loudon County, western Fairfax County, and the Manassas area of Prince William County. We also cover Clarke County, Fauquier County, and Rappahannock County.

NCMA members can change their chapter designation at any time by contacting NCMA Membership Services and requesting the change. You can reach them at 800-344-8096 or [email protected].
