The Year in Review

BUILDING BRIDGES AND COUNTERING ISLAMOPHOBIA

The Reach of Our Message

In 2013, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf visited 12 cities across the globe, with 19 speaking engagements, elevating the discourse on Islam.

Communicated the message of moderation through 6 Op Eds, radio/visual media interviews, and numerous attributions in print and on-line media in major media networks including Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, and Huffington Post.

Took a stand on news and breaking events to advance the voice of moderation, on such issues as the burning of Christian houses, events in Syria, and the work of Malala Yousufzai.

Honored speaker at the New York Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela, where Imam Feisal offered prayers and spoke on forgiveness through the life and work of Nelson Mandela.

Engaged in intrafaith dialogue and gave sermons in Muslim community settings in New York and Boston.

Hosted interfaith events, including a Book Reading with Reza Aslan and Interfaith Comedy Feast with faith communities in NYC.

CORDOBA HOUSE

Held a second convening of Muslim families and mobilized a core group of supporters at Chautauqua Institution to establish a Cordoba House at Chautauqua.

Launched Cordoba House Without Walls in New York City. Held the first in a series of community-based programs.

ISLAMIC RULE OF LAW INDEX

Completed a soon to be published manuscript that defines the Islamic State, reflecting the democratic values for the modern day Islamic state. Held 7 convenings of 15 scholars representing full spectrum of Islamic legal & political thought, from 12 countries across the continents. Achieved consensus on defining Islamic good governance that operates within the tradition, meets demands of pluralistic societies, and accords with internationally accepted standards of human rights.

As part of a delegation sent by the Malaysian Prime Minister Nagib to Cairo in August, a summary of the jurisprudence section was presented to the Egyptian Interim Government President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister. The jurisprudence was presented as a means to bridge the ideological divide between the factions in Egypt.

The Islamic Rule of Law was presented at the 16th Annual Judicial Conference, Berlin, Germany.
