Health Information
Alzheimer's Information

Last month several of the GrapeVine's Faith Community nurses attended our dialogue "Women & Aging: The Impact of Dementia" prior to attending the GrapeVine Project Trainings in Madison and Milwaukee.

Both the Dialogue and trainings included some great discussion and comments about research, community resources, and individuals' stories. Below please find some links for your reference:

Teepa Snow is a dementia expert who trains and consults for agencies, facilities, and families.

Senior Helpers is a business that provides a wide range of senior services.

Frontline recently did a 2-hour show entitled League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis.

The Wisconsin Music and Memory Initiative is a program through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services involving 100 nursing homes throughout the state.

The book Super Brain was written by Deepak Chopra, MD and Rudolph E. Tanzi, one of the world's foremost experts on the causes of Alzheimer's. This youtube video is a quick synopsis of the link between sleep and brain health - - how delta wave sleep helps short term memories become about  long term memories.

UW Milwaukee grad Andrew James Gralton has put together documentary about his mother who was stricken with dementia at the age of 48. The  piece chronicles the evolution of her condition during the past 10 years and his experience as one of her caretakers. Cinders is a snapshot of that experience.

One of the Dialogue panelists mentioned a peanut butter sniff test for Alzheimer's.  Here's a link to the article that ran in USA Today and a follow-up article that ran on MedPage Today.

Medication Information

Also at the trainings we talked about the BEERS list and the MicroMedex mobile app.
