June 10th 2015

I hope that you can join me and my staff this Saturday, June 27th as we celebrate our nation's Independence by painting our neighborhoods red, white and blue.

We have 10,000 American flags that we will be placing in our local neighborhoods and we hope that you will join us! We will be meeting at my offices located at 508 Central Drive on Saturday, June 27th at 10:00am with coffee and doughnuts as we pass out bags of American flags.

We will then take these flags to our neighborhoods, placing them at the end of driveways or next to mailboxes.

In years past, this popular event has helped promote patriotism and pride in our community so please make plans now to join us in this great event.

Stars & Striped Explosion

fireworks-summer.jpg On Saturday, July 4th the City of Virginia Beach will hold its annual Stars & Stripes Explosion at Mount Trashmore and you won't find a better display of fireworks anywhere in Hampton Roads!

This event kicks off at 4:00 PM and parking is just $5.00, so you will want to get there early, bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket then sit back, say hello to your neighbors and get ready for a great show. There will be great food available, entertainment and activities for everyone in a family-friendly environment.

The Food Trucks Have Arrived!

picnic-family-young.jpg Another great attraction new to Virginia Beach is the arrival of Food Trucks at "The Hub" on 8th Street at Atlantic Avenue. Many of these food trucks will be on-site at the Stars & Stripes Explosion on July 4th, but if you can't make it there, or want to have another of the great dishes you might have sampled on July 4th, chances are you can find that great taste again at "The Hub" on 8th Street.

The Food Trucks have their own schedule of events throughout the summer and you can even book your favorite Food Truck to cater your next company picnic or family event! You won't have to do any of the cooking and your friends, family or co-workers will enjoy the taste of fresh food (Much of it locally grown or produced) operated by local business owners.

Please visit The Hub's website for more information

Lesner Bridge Replacement

I recently attended the Lynnhaven Colony Civic League meeting where the lead engineer on the Lesner Bridge Project for the City of Virginia Beach gave a presentation regarding the Lesner Bridge replacement.

Work is progressing nicely!  Please go to the Lesner Bridge website
to learn more about this project.

Drive Safe, Be Aware

Work on a newly resurfaced I-264 is coming along nicely, but there will still be construction and lane closures for several weeks to come. In addition to the Lesner Bridge replacement, there are also various road improvement and expansion projects all over our city and state during the summer months.

Please drive safely in these work zones and remember to slow down or move over when you see emergency or service vehicles stopped on the shoulder of the road.

Also be watchful for moving construction equipment and workers in work zones while being mindful that during night work, flood lights from construction trucks or equipment may impact your ability to easily spot hazards in or along the roadway.

Police, fire, rescue squad and tow-truck operators also ask that you please obey the law when approaching their stopped vehicles along the roadway. As stated before, slowing down or moving over is the law in Virginia. We want to make sure these workers can do their job safely and arrive home at the end of their shift.

And please remember, no phone in the work zone!

Make sure you get out there and enjoy everything Virginia Beach has to offer and make this one a summer to remember!

With Warmest Regards,
