Christmas Tree Recycling - Westland residents can drop off their Christmas tree at the Recycling Center at the DPS building located at 37137 Marquette during regular operating hours Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm, Wednesday, January 2  through Wednesday, January 16. Trees should be free of decorations. All trees received will be chipped and will be recycled for use at the City of Westland Community Garden and other locations. For more information please call 734-728-1770. Christmas trees are also being picked up at the curb for two weeks starting in January following the Christmas holiday. 

 

Friendship Center Re-opens - The Westland Friendship Center will re-open for normal business hours on Monday, January 6 at 9:00 a.m.

 

Inaugural Ceremony - Westland Mayor William R. Wild, incumbent Council Members Christine Cicierelli-Bryant, Michael Kehrer and Dewey Reeves and Coucilman-elect Kevin Coleman will be sworn in to their new term of office on Monday, January 6 at 6:00 p.m. at an Inaugural Ceremony at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

-The Police and Fire Retirement Board will meet on Monday, January 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Police Department Conference Room located at 36701 Ford Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Westland City Council on Monday, January 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-The Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-The Civil Service Commission will meet on Wednesday, January 8 at 4:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

Buddy Up 2.0 - Allen "Buddy" Shuh, a local resident and finalist from season 13 of NBC's "Biggest Loser," will present his "Buddy Up 2.0" program for FREE and will allow residents to join together and get healthy during winter months.  The program lasts for 7 weeks and kicks off on Saturday, January 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with registration at the Westland Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh.

 

Mike Modano Ice Arena - The Mike Modano Ice Arena offers an open skate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. and a Glow Skate every Friday night from 8:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.   The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
