Help Children Succeed! Donate to the Backpack & School Supply Drive
Each year we collect backpacks and school supplies for the children of George Mason Elementary School. CCE is partnered with this under-served school as part of the Micah Initiative.

Our goal is to collect 75 backpacks filled with school supplies. Please consider giving whatever you can and bring your donations to the milling area between now and Sunday, September 6.

Please contribute to Rev. Doug's Farewell Gifts
On Sunday, September 6 at 12:15 PM we will celebrate the Rev. Doug Wigner's ministry with us and we hope you can join us.

On that day, we will be presenting Doug with some gifts from the congregation and we need your help! In the hallway to the Parlor, there is a table with two vases. In one vase, you have the opportunity to leave a note of thanks and farewell to Doug. You can bring a note in from home or use the supplies provided. In the other vase, you are invited to place a small item that will be used to make stepping stones for Doug's garden. You can choose something significant to you or something that you think he'd like -- something small such as a coin, stone, key, bottle cap, marble, etc.

The table will be set up through Sunday, August 30. If you have questions, please contact Rebecca Guzman.

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child

Sunday School shapes the lives of our youngest parishioners. Sunday School is everyone’s ministry!  We are looking for anyone who loves children and is age 16+ (those under 16 can sign-up to be a youth assistant).  Many different spiritual gifts and talents are needed to be Greeters, Small Group Leaders, Assistants and even do work “Behind the Scenes.”  Sign up with a friend and teach together and/or make new friends.  All materials are provided in the classroom and the lesson can be previewed online.   Training will be provided!  We will be concentrating on building community with our Sunday School Volunteers. There will be many opportunities throughout the year to meet together, talk, give feedback and get to know each other as a ministry group!

Sign up now or contact Ryan Giorgis for more information.

Women's Book Discussion
Wednesday, September 2, 6:30 - 8 PM

Register now and join us for a fun ladies night with cheese, wine, and conversation at Julie Finnegan's house in Rockville (about 10 minutes west of the church).

We'll be discussing The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but Living As If He Doesn't Exist by Craig Groeschel.

The founding and senior pastor of the multi-campus, pace-setting LiveChurch.tv, Groeschel's personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life is more relevant than ever. Readers everywhere will be nodding their heads as they are challenged to take their own honest moment and ask the question: am I putting my whole faith in God but still living as if everything was up to me?

Kids, Welcome Back to a School Year of New Adventures

The Children’s Ministry Team is very excited about our new Children's Sunday School curriculum this year from Sparkhouse.  Highlights include fun Bible Story movies, colorful leaflets to bring home, and less prep for leaders & teachers. It all begins Sunday, September 13.

We are changing things up. Offerings will differ at each of the two worship services this fall.  At the 9:00 AM service we will use three different Sparkhouse curriculums, so we can customize for the specific age groups and needs of these groups. There will be a curriculum just for preschoolers (potty-trained 2s & 3s, 4s&5s), an exciting new plan for K-3, and even one just for the tweens in our Club45!   For the 10:45 AM service, the kids will all gather in one large room to experience the Bible story and then divide into groups for age-appropriate discussion and activities. Stay tuned for more!
Education for Ministry Resumes Sept. 14
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a transformative way to grow your faith as part of a small, trusted community. Participants learn together through study, worship, discussion and reflection, and experience how to connect our faith tradition with our daily lives. Past participants and graduates say it is life-changing.

EfM will resume on Monday nights from 7:30-9:30 beginning September 14.
