Greetings!
Yesterday, marked the 26th yahrzeit - anniversary of passing - of our beloved Rebbetzin, Chaya Mushka Schneerson, of righteous memory; daughter of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, and wife of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

The Rebbetzin is beloved to us Chassidim like a mother or grandmother. Each time I visit the Ohel (the Rebbe's gravesite) I'll always stop at her gravesite as well to ask for her blessing. I must admit, at times the feelings I experience near the Rebbetzin's gravesite are even stronger than at the Rebbe's Ohel - I guess a mother touches that special place in the heart... Our daughter Mushka is named after this very special woman, as are thousands of other young women who walk in her path and try to live up to her shining example. Her yahrzeit is occasion to be inspired to grow spiritually, for all of us, and especially for Jewish women. Click here to learn more about this extraordinary woman.

Speaking of mother: It's no coincidence that on this very Shabbat, my entire immediate and extended Paltiel family is gathering for a retreat to celebrate the 70th birthday of my mother, Rochelle Paltiel (may she be well for a long healthy life till 120 years). Those of you who have had opportunity of meeting my mother know how special she is. I'll miss being here this Shabbos but look forward to celebrating my mother's special birthday alongside my six siblings and their families who are all coming in from throughout the US and Canada.
There's no one quite like mom!

On the subject of 'mothers' - thousands of Chabad Rebbetzins, "Shluchos" from across the globe, are gathering in Brooklyn this weekend (those whose flights weren't cancelled...) for their annual convention which is held each year close to the Rebbetzin's yahrzeit. The women have the opportunity to hear guest speakers, attend workshops, share ideas, visit the Ohel (Lubavitcher Rebbe's gravesite) and socialize among their peers. The convention culminates this Sunday evening with The Gala Banquet, after which these 3,000+ incredible women will return to their posts around the world to continue bringing the joys of Judaism to their communities.

The $499 Dilemma

Question:
I tell my nine year old son that people who work hard will progress in life and have what they need. Now I have a dilemma. There is a new electronic game which costs $499 plus megabucks for each game. His cousin has one, his friends have it but we have no intention of buying him one. We don't have the money, and anyway it is not one of our priorities - there are far better things he could do with his time than play violent video games. He does everything properly, listens to us, puts in the effort at school and is now devastated that he has done it all and cannot have what he wants. How will I explain it to him?

Einstein received acclaim for demonstrating that energy and matter are one. The scientist who demonstrates how all forces are one in a unified theory will receive even greater acclaim.
So, since we all agree that someone will eventually establish this, why not accept it right now, and we'll call it G-d?

Parshat Mishpatim
Following the revelation at Sinai, G-d legislates a series of laws for the people of Israel. These include the laws of the indentured servant; the penalties for murder, kidnapping, assault and theft; civil laws pertaining to redress of damages, the granting of loans and the responsibilities of the "Four Guardians"; and the rules governing the conduct of justice by courts of law.
Also included are laws warning against mistreatment of foreigners; the observance of the seasonal festivals, and the agricultural gifts that are to be brought to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem; the prohibition against cooking meat with milk; and the mitzvah of prayer. Altogether, the Parshah of Mishpatim contains 53 mitzvot-23 imperative commandments and 30 prohibitions.
G-d promises to bring the people of Israel to the Holy Land, and warns them against assuming the pagan ways of its current inhabitants.
The people of Israel proclaim, "We will do and we will hear all that G-d commands us." Leaving Aaron and Hur in charge in the Israelite camp, Moses ascends Mount Sinai and remains there for forty days and forty nights to receive the Torah from G-d.
