It was a very beautiful night for Africa on April 9th 2014 at The Regis Hotel in Washington DC, with the African Leadership Magazine hosting its Annual African Public Service Awards.  The event brought together great African Leaders, diplomats, elected officials and community group leaders, from the  DC Metro , Maryland, Georgia and Africa.

 

It was a night dedicated to the recognition of OUTSTANDING AFRICANS IN PUBLIC SERVICE.  African leaders who have done extremely well in office. The Awards Ceremony highlighted the roles they are playing in their various nations  to foster growth,  development, peace, democracy religious freedom and paving the way for their countries to join the trend of Emerging Nations. ready to compete in the ever growing global economy.

 

 
His Excellency Jakaya Kikwete President of Tanzania, Honoree.
 
Lady Kate was appointed by the African Leadership Magazine Team, to serve as Mistress of Ceremony in her capacity as the Governor's Commissioner on African Affairs for the State of Maryland. The event which kicked off on time had very powerful speakers including His Excelleny Ade Adefuya, Nigeria's Ambassador to The United States, His Excellency Kamillius Membe Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke of the progress Tanzania has made under the Leadership of President Jakaya Kikwete and he declared Tanzania open for foreign investment and more.  Rep Dee Dawkins-Haigler, Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus delivered the keynote speech for the night.

His Excellency Bernard Kamillius Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, representing The President of Tanzania His Excellency Jakaya Kikwete is presented with The Outstanding Public Service Award for the President of Tanzania. This Award was presented by non other than Prof. Ade Adefuya, Nigeria's Ambassador to the United Nations in the presence of Her Excellency Liberata Mulamula,Tanzania's Ambassador to The United States.

Dr. Ken Giami, Publisher of African Leadership Magazine presented the Outstanding Public Service Award to Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr. John Kennedy Opara received the Outstanding Public Service Award for his great work with the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission. He is the Executive Secretary of NCPC. This Award was Presented by Dr. Ken Giami, Publisher of African Leadership Magazine and Ms Tee Thompson of Africa Trade Business Center.

The Governor of Maryland Martin O'Malley was strongly represented by His Executive Assistant Ms Linda Aldredge, Director of the Governor's Commission on African Affairs, Iman Awald and Lady Kate Ndi, the Governor's Commissioner on African Affairs.

Citations were Presented by Ms Linda Aldredge on behalf of Governor O'Malley to members of the African Leadership Magazine team who worked hard to put the event together.


Honorees were also presented with Awards from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.  The Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler presented the awards.
