Opportunities for Student Involvement

Parent Orientation Leader
The Office of Orientation and Transition Programs is hiring enthusiastic undergraduate students to serve as Parent Orientation Leaders for the 2014 summer orientation season. Ideal candidates should be willing to serve as university ambassadors to our parents and family members, have strong written and verbal communication skills, value team work, maintain good academic standing, including a 2.5 GPA, and be available to serve throughout the summer orientation season. Housing is not provided for Parent Orientation leaders.

Applications will be available January 21, 2014! Visit the Parent Orientation website to apply once they are available. Applicants will be able to apply through the Eagle Network or pick up an application packet in the Orientation and Transition Programs Office in Stovall Hall (STUB), Suite 155.

Eagle Camp Leader
Eagle Camp Leaders are imperative to the implementation of Eagle Camp. Leaders are upper class students trained to lead and connect students during their Eagle Camp experience. Eagle Camp Leaders are able to impact incoming students and help them connect with UNT. If you appreciate a diverse yet inclusive atmosphere, working as a team, and leading others while having fun, you should apply to be an Eagle Camp Leader!

Applications will be available soon! Visit the Eagle Camp website to apply once they are available.

Homecoming Crew Leader

The function of the Homecoming Crew is to provide direct support and success to Homecoming 2014 through the direction and supervision of the Homecoming Crew Advisors and Student Director. The Homecoming Crew will gain an understanding of event planning, student life at UNT, and the mission of Student Activities, and will be able to articulate this through the hosted Homecoming events at the University of North Texas. The Homecoming Crew will also represent the diverse interests of students and participate in several programs and events as a student leader.

Applications will be available beginning January 13. For application requirements, materials and additional details, visit the Student Activities website.

Parent Association "Draw" Scholarship

The UNT Parent Association awards scholarships in the spring semester each academic year. Two different types of scholarships are awarded-the Scholastic Scholarship and the Draw, or External Scholarship. The number of scholarships given in each category depends on the availability of funds with a minimum of five $500 scholarships awarded in the Draw category. For each recipient, the amount awarded is split evenly between the following fall and spring semesters. The scholarships are given to an undergraduate or graduate student who has attended one full semester at UNT. Summer sessions are not considered full semesters. Students may re-apply for the scholarships annually and students can receive a Parent Association scholarship multiple times during their collegiate experience at UNT. The student may submit an application for both or just one as long as the requirements listed below are met.

The deadline for the Parent Association "Draw" Scholarship is April 1, 2014. Click Here to download the scholarship application.

What if a Student Disagrees With a Course Grade?

"Sometimes a student expects the grade he receives in a class, and sometimes he may be taken by surprise. Sometimes a student knows that a particular grade is coming, but he is not satisfied with the grade. Grades are intended to reflect the work produced and the student's understanding of the material in the class."
- College Parents of America

UNT: A Great Summer Destination

Making plans for summer 2014?

Please invite your student to consider attending classes at UNT. Summer session offers many advantages over regular long semesters:
  • Staying on track for an early or on-time graduation
  • Catching up if a student dropped or did not pass a class during fall or spring semesters
  • Completing pre-requisites for fall classes
  • Attending smaller classes with more one-on-one interaction with professors
  • Taking unique classes that are only offered at this time of year
  • Avoiding tuition and fee increases in future semesters
  • Participating in study abroad, internships, and fun student activities

Students should consult with their advisor or follow the registrar's webpage for more information about summer course offerings and registration deadlines.
