OCTOBER 2014 PLAY ANNOUNCED!
On March 28th and 29th, Griot Theatre hosted its inaugural New Voices Festival to showcase playwrights from underrepresented populations.  Based on feedback received from the Festival audiences and the assessment of the scripts, Griot Theatre has selected its next play!

THE FINEST THING
by Malik B. El-Amin
Set in St. Louis during the early nineties, the play follows Heru as he spends the winter break from college at the home of his sometime-girlfriend Khet and her family. While Khet struggles to define her relationship with Heru and confronts the failing health of her grandfather, Heru raises suspicion with his frequent late-night visits to East St. Louis. The arrival of a mysterious visitor propels the play toward its tragic conclusion.

Griot Theatre is excited to showcase a play written by one of its own, co-founder Malik B. El-Amin, and to bring in a talented array of diverse artists to populate the cast and crew of the production.

THE FINEST THING will be performed at Bethel Encino in October 2014.  More news about the play and how you can support the production will appear in upcoming newsletters!

Catching up with
KAYPRI
Griot Theatre audiences witnessed Kaypri's work during both nights of our inaugral New Voices Festival. She accompanied the casts of both The Finest Thing and Touch Tour by serving as Narrator. It's very fitting, then, that her next engagement has her serving as narrator in a very different capacity:

"I have recently released my mother's autobiography about her unexpected life and work in Race Relations from the 1950's forward.  I finished the book for her after her dementia prevented her from completing it herself. Then, surprised my mother with it for her 80th birthday."
