Santa's Polar Express -  Co-op Services Credit Union is sponsoring Santa's Polar Express which is a large ride-on electric train that operates inside the mall.  Free train rides will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17.  Free train rides will also be available during the same times on December 7 and 8. 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

-The Disability Concerns meeting will be held Monday, November 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh  Rd.

-The Westland City Council meeting will be held on Monday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-The Housing Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dorsey Center located at 32715 Dorsey.

-The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Wednesday, November 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Downtown Development Authority on Thursday, November 21 at 8 a.m. at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

Mayor William R. Wild's State of the City Address - Mayor William R. Wild, who was reelected for his third term in this November's General Election, is inviting City dignitaries, City Council and residents to join him for his 2013 State of the City Address.  He will discuss the City's current financial situation, including the new two-year balanced budget and $5-million surplus, as well as, updates on ongoing and upcoming projects such as the new City Hall, Fire Station, City website and enhancements at Central City Park. The Address will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Westland's Grand Cinema 16 MJR Theatre, located at 6800 N Wayne Rd. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the event will begin at 7:00 p.m. Following the Address, guests are invited to stay for light refreshments. If you are unable to attend the event, you can  watch it on the City's website at: www.cityofwestland.com/mayorsofc or on the City's government access channel, WLND, channel 12 on Comcast, channel 10 on WOW and Channel 99 (Westland) on U-Verse. 

 

Wayne County's Lightfest  - This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Wayne County Lightfest.  Visit the Midwest's longest drive-through holiday light display for four miles of colorful lights with a fee of $5/car. Enter off Merriman Road, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland. For more information on this holiday spectacular, call the Parks office. Co-sponsored by ITC Holdings.
