AALAS Awards Nominations Update

A total of 35 nominations were received for the 6 AALAS Awards. This is a nearly 70% increase over last year! Winners will be announced on Sunday, October 19, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. Best of luck to all our deserving nominees.

Abstract Submission Deadline is June 1

If you missed the deadline for topic submissions, you still have time to submit an abstract. The National Meeting website has instructions on abstract preparation and submission as well as a variety of abstract samples.

The AALAS National Meeting Program Committee is excited to announce two new additions to the Platform Sessions at this year's AALAS National meeting: What's Your Facility/Husbandry Diagnosis, and a Laboratory Investigations session dedicated to laboratory animal residents/trainees and their research.

The What's Your Facility/Husbandry Diagnosis session will be very similar to the clinical What's Your Diagnosis session, where the presenters will guide the audience through steps taken to effectively solve a problem related to husbandry or facility issues. For anyone new to the WYD format, the session involves active audience participation, with frequent questions asked of the audience (e.g. "What do you think is causing this issue?" or "What would you do next?"). When submitting the abstract through Abstract Central, be sure to select the "What's Your Facility/Husbandry Diagnosis" category.

For the trainee session, the standard format and presentation style for Laboratory Investigations will be followed, but the session will be dedicated  to laboratory animal medicine trainees presenting their research.  When submitting the abstract through Abstract Central, authors will be prompted to answer a question asking whether the abstract being submitted describes research that was performed as part of a laboratory animal training/residency program. Training Program Directors, we hope you encourage your trainees to participate!
NM 2014: The Menger

For a real blast from the past, be sure to check out the Menger Bar at the Menger Hotel

Established in 1859, this is the site where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders.  They still serve a variety of beverages including locally brewed beers. The ambiance and history of this well-known watering hole is something you don't want to miss.
