Shaping an American Muslim Identity

Prophet Muhammad's Message (PBUH) for 21st Century America

January 26, 2014 - In a vibrant and robust gathering Cordoba Initiative hosted its second Faith & Community Affairs program, Cordoba House NYC, with an interactive lecture and titled Prophet Muhammad's Message (pbuh) for 21 Century America.

A series of discussions will be held at future events to distinguish cultural practices in traditional Islamic societies; and develop a framework encompassing authentic and universal Islamic values suitable for the 21st Century American Islam. The discussion underscored the universal values of justice and compassion embedded at the core of Islamic law, faith and practice; and the need to translate these in our actions, ethics and politics in America and globally.

Imam Feisal Delivers Friday Sermon at Columbia University

January 30, 2014 - Imam Feisal stressed that one should focus on developing their inner relationship with their Creator rather than worshiping the outward institution of the religion. In the Quran, God never once uses the word " Muslims" to address the followers of Prophet Muhammad, instead always uses the word "believers" or "Mumins". In the Quran, God refers to "good actions" and "bad actions. While acknowledging Jews and Christians, the Quran never speaks of Judaism or Christianity as separate belief systems but as "Gods Religion" (Din Allah). God asserts that each of the prophets and messengers came to teach the same religion in different time, different languages and with different practices.
