Brooklyn Public Library to Create
Brooklyn Public Library, NY, has received a major grant from IMLS to partner with BiblioCommons to create an online badging system for libraries.The projected end-product will be a technical infrastructure that participating libraries can use to offer digital badge-based programs for library customers.BPL's initiative is modeled on the Open Badging system developed by Mozilla. Teen Volunteer Organizes Brain Awareness Day
Brain science is a hot topic across the research spectrum. Recently, Hasna Rizwan, a 13-year-old teen volunteer at the Loudoun County Public Library, VA, partnered with Teen Librarian Myisha Fuller to produce Brain Awareness Day. This full-day program also engaged the Library's Teen Advisory Board and featured a talk by a Howard Hughes Medical Institute researcher, a presentation on healthy brain habits, games focused on memory and activities such as making wearable brain caps illustrating the brain's regions. Jane Pyper, City Librarian of Toronto Public Library, ON, since 2008 will step down from her position in June.
