Holiday in the Heartland - 2013
Glo Westerdahl - one of our "20 for 20" Honorees - with her family at Holiday in the Heartland 2013.

On Dec. 11, 300+ of our friends, supporters, partners and donors joined us at Aria in downtown Minneapolis to commemorate our 20th anniversary, raise money for our camps and programs and, most importantly, celebrate our "20 for 20" Honorees.

Without these 20 organizations and individuals, we would not have had a 20th anniversary to celebrate, or camps and programs to raise money for. We cannot thank them enough for what they have done for us and for the thousands of campers who have have benefited from their generosity.

For those that were not in attendance, the honorees are as follows: Angel Flight Central, Bikers with Big Hearts, Challenge Incarceration Program, Marty Chorzempa, Leigh Combs, Christ Presbyterian Church, Fallon, The Fund in the Sun Foundation, David Gale, Susan Jamros, Kraus-Anderson, Gregory Lewis, Vicki Light, Lauren MacLeash, Paul Molitor, Carol Nelson, MD, Nile Sandeen, Eric Waugh, Glo Westerdahl and Neil Willenson.

For more detailed background information on each honoree, please see this article on our website.

We also would like to thank all the attendees, donors, supporters, friends, volunteers, partners and staff who made the evening so special! Let's do it all again next year!

Winter has Arrived
Our Willow River Camp is blanketed in snow, so we are all inside recovering from Holiday in the Heartland and planning for next summer. Please read on for stories about a cool fundraising event, a reunion in New York City and more!
A Volunteer's Story
For 23-year-old Bree, One Heartland started out as a place where she could help others. Her work was quickly rewarded with new experiences, friendships, and lots of lifetime memories. Click here to read more of Bree's story

Birch Family Camp Reunion in New York
This past October, 27 families and 30 volunteers attended a Birch Family Camp reunion in Central Park. All the attendees enjoyed reconnecting with their camp friends - and they are also looking forward to the next reunion, scheduled for February of 2014.
The reunion is just another example of the year-round benefits our campers and volunteers receive from One Heartland!

Parties with Heart - 2014
Parties with Heart puts the power of fundraising in the hands of some of our most loyal supporters living around the country. Each year, friends of One Heartland open their homes to friends and family to raise awareness and funds for One Heartland. Each party is designed by the host(s), and supported by One Heartland. One Heartland takes care of invitations, donation envelopes and an online donation form. Those achieving specific levels of participation will be eligible for additional support and incentives. Keep an eye on OneHeartland.org for more information about the 2014 Parties - you are also welcome contact Alice Widstrand at 612 824 6464 or [email protected] for more details.

Cool Fundraiser!
Project Run-a-Way is part Project Runway, part RuPaul's Drag Race and part America's Next Top Model. The show has grown from being held in the organizer's apartment to being hosted and sponsored by Progress Bar in downtown Chicago. The party this year was so big that they decided to leverage its growth and support a charity with the proceeds - and the charity they chose was One Heartland. All told, they raised $2,500, including a generous match from Progress Bar. We thank them for their support of our camps!

A Holiday Message
We wanted to take a brief moment to wish all of our supporters a very happy holiday season.

As everyone knows, material possessions tend to be forgotten over time, while the experiences we share with others are with us forever. So please consider making donations to One Heartland's programs in lieu of physical gifts this season. The gift of acceptance and community is one that keeps on giving all year long. Here is a link to our online donation form.

If you are unable to make a financial contribution, we are always in need of items for our camps. Here is a link to our current needs.

Thank you - and Happy Holidays!

We are excited to share our news with you, and we encourage you to contact Matt Becker with any suggestions, comments or other feedback.

If you enjoy this newsletter, please feel free to forward it to friends and encourage them to subscribe, too.

Thank you for reading!
