There are many ways to support this recovery oriented community of care. Below is BCACD's new year report.
Dear Friends of Burke Council on Alcoholism & Chemical Dependency,

"I quit using drugs and have never felt better and more hopeful in my life."

"Our family is back together.....thanks to the help we received at Burke Council."

"I reclaimed my dignity."

These aren't isolated statements. They are the actual words of men and women, young and old, who came to BCACD in search of help and got it!

We are making progress in Burke County, but the needs remain great. As the sun sets on 2013, BCACD continues to address those needs-by providing prevention and education, treatment, and recovery support services. The links within this email detail some of our activities in those areas. You can give in many ways; download a donation form here from our website or complete this secure online form. You may also call the office to arrange a credit card gift by phone.

Please assist us, as we close out one year and begin another, to continue helping adolescents and adults, men and women, in families, faith communities, schools and businesses find and nurture new lives in recovery.

With thanks and gratitude for all of your help and support,

Jim Van Hecke, Executive Director

Empowering Youth

Burke Youth and their Families

Through SAP and ScIP, three counselors are in each Burke County public middle school and high school every week. They see over 700 students directly per year. Through education programs in the schools, including special assemblies and the Family Day event, SAP and ScIP counselors present BCACD's message to over 3,000 students, parents, and faculty members. Approximately 10,000 pieces of literature are distributed. BCACD provides educational programming to parents through ScIP, which any parent can attend, to learn about youth interventions and prevention.

JCPC

This program consists of court-ordered assessment and treatment for juveniles who enter the court system. Here, BCACD staff have an opportunity to interact with the youth. BCACD is the only substance abuse program contracted with the Department of Juvenile Justice's Juvenile Crime Prevention Council in Burke County.

Flynn Recovery Community

Recovery services for men are ongoing through Flynn's Phase I and Phase II residential programs. BCACD is now in discussions about meeting the community's need for therapeutic programming for women and the development of a day treatment program. Client testimonials by men who have graduated can be heard HERE.

Recovery services for women in Western NC include outpatient therapy, support groups, clinical services in transitional housing, prevention and education, complementary services (meditation, coaching and yoga), and services for perinatal women and recovery retreats.

Community Building

BCACD presented prevention and education programs to over 1,500 people at over 50 different venues in 2013, including faith groups, human service agencies, businesses and a variety of community groups. The result was increased awareness and understanding and progress towards creating a vibrant Recovery Oriented Community of Care in Burke County.

15th Annual Carolinas Conference on Addiction & Recovery

CCAR was hosted by BCACD and the Recovery Institute, with special thanks to Alcohol & Drug Council of NC, the SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Service (DAODAS). This event educates, trains, and inspires those working in the mental health and substance abuse fields. This year's conference focused on the latest in advances in research as relevant to a clinical practice.

Clinical Services

We provide prevention and education materials to the public, as well as information about recovery fellowships and community treatment and recovery support options. Our licensed counselors provide assessments and individual and group treatment services for men and women, adults and adolescents.

The race was directed by long-time race directors David and Rhonda Lee, who started the event in 2006. With a new event name and a new host, proceeds of this year's event benefitted Burke Council on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, supporting a healthier Burke County.
