A Last Word
|
Dear Neighbors,
On July 2, 1776, the delegates to the Continental Congress, assembled in Philadelphia, voted in secret, to break away from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Two days later, on July 4th, the document they had approved, the Declaration of Independence, was published.
On July 3rd, John Adams, delegate to the Congress from Massachusetts wrote to Abigail, his wife, and described the way independence would be celebrated: "...[with] pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations..."
I hope that you, your family and friends all took advantage, and in at least one of the ways Adams described, marked the Day. Two hundred and thirty-nine years later, the Republic endures.
I'll see you at the Market!

Market News

Some of our most hardworking volunteers on the last day of our Indoor Market at Pierre's. |
Last week we celebrated our fantastic volunteers with a cocktail hour at
Chicago Distilling Company (for those of you that remember, yes Chicago Distilling Company they used to vend with us, however due to changes in the liquor laws they can no longer sell at the market). We are endlessly thankful for our volunteers who help us set up, run and break down the market each week. Without them the Farmers Market would not run as smoothly and successfully as it does - if it were able to run at all! We will continue to celebrate our volunteers by doing a monthly volunteer happy hour, every last Thursday of the month, at the Chicago Distilling Company (or another place in the neighborhood!). By meeting once a month with all of our volunteers, we hope we'll also be able to hear ideas about how to improve and grow the Market, create a connected and dedicated group of LSFM volunteers, as well as just socialize with each other outside of a Sunday. Plus it doesn't hurt that those CDC cocktails are pretty delicious.
So if you have volunteered once in the last month or so, join us on July 30th and hang with a great group of volunteers and Logan Square residents. And if you haven't volunteered yet, give it a try! You can sign up
here, and we promise, it's a great time, even without the cocktails.
Happy Fourth of July!
