Summer announcements from BFCCPS

Summer Updates from BFCCPS
I hope that you all are enjoying the start of your summer vacations. Please be sure to drop a postcard to the front office so we can keep up with the adventures of our BFCCPS families over the coming weeks!

Many thanks to Mrs. Schwab, Mrs. Word and the 6th Grade students who planted sunflowers in the courtyard this spring. We've been enjoying watching them grow and bloom the last few weeks, they are a sunny addition to our day. You can read more about the 6th Grade gardening project in this post on the school website.

Today I'm writing with very happy news!  I'd like to take a moment to introduce the newest staff members at BFCCPS:

Mrs. Cheryl Dunlap
Kindergarten Assistant

Please welcome Mrs. Cheryl Dunlap to our Kindergarten Team.  Mrs. Dunlap will join Mrs. Tagen as the Kindergarten Assistant in Room 7 this fall.  Mrs. Dunlap joins BFCCPS after five years working as a preschool teacher at the Franklin Children's
School.

She is certified in early childhood education by the Department of Early Education and Care and holds a college certification in Early Childhood Education from Dean College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stonehill College.

Mrs. Dunlap's sweet nature will be such a comfort to our new Kindergarten friends and their parents too.

"I am so excited to join the BFCCPS family as a Kindergarten assistant.  I have worked with preschoolers for 5 years preparing them for that next big step and am thrilled to be going along on that journey this year too.  I am so honored to join and support the team of amazing teachers that I admire so much at this school.  I am so passionate about working with young children and helping them to learn and grow in a fun, safe, and caring school environment.  Each child deserves to feel valued, capable, and happy at school and my hope is to assist in that effort as they are introduced and adjust to the life of elementary school.  I can not wait to meet all the new kindergarten friends!!"

Mrs. Holly Oelkers:
Grade 4

I am so excited to join the BFCCPS family this year! This will be my first year in a fourth grade classroom coming from two years in third grade in Massachusetts and 10 years in education in the great state of Texas!

I am the proud mom of three kids! I have an 8
th grade girl, a 5 th
grade girl and a 3rd grade boy.

I hold a Masters' Degree in Education and I hold two Massachusetts teaching certifications. I love to read and travel with my family.

Mrs. Oelkers will be available to meet her new students and their parents during the week of August 24th. Please watch her faculty page for updates regarding specific days and times.

Mrs. Oelkers' students should visit her site to download and complete a "getting to know you" letter.

Ms. Abigail Brunelle: Math Teacher
Grades 7 & 8

Ms. Abigail Brunelle holds a BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Rhode Island College. She has taught middle school math for three years. Her most recent experience includes teaching pre-algebra, and algebra at an Independent Public School in Providence, RI. Ms. Brunelle has also spent time becoming an herbalist and enjoys gardening and foraging in local forests.

Ms. Brunelle will be available to meet her new students and their parents during the week of August 24th. Please watch her faculty page for updates regarding specific days and times.

Grade 7 & 8 Students should read more and download a student questionnaire on Ms. Brunelle's page.

Mrs. Deb Balcarek: Art Teacher
Grades K-8

I am thrilled to be the new art teacher at BFCCPS and am looking forward to an art filled school year! Since I was a little kid, I've always loved art, and I went on to graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Art as well as a Bachelor of Architecture.

I've worked as an architect and believe architecture is one of many careers that require a STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) education. But all along I've loved teaching children-I completed student teaching at Moses Brown, and while working in architecture, began to work as an art educator at the Children's Museum in Easton. For the last seven years I've been an art teacher in the Easton Public Schools.

Ms. Balcarek will be available to meet her new students and their parents during the week of August 24th. Please watch her faculty page for updates regarding specific days and times.
