A Note of Gratitude

Dear Pastor Miller,

I am writing today to express long-overdue gratitude to you and your congregation.  While I am not a member of University Methodist Church, I have been greatly blessed by your church's gracious ministry for over fifteen years.  You see, I am a member of the Al-Anon Family Group called Just For Today, and we meet every Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in your lovely Trice Building.

While I am sure that having so many people moving about your campus, attending the various recovery groups you host each week, can be quite taxing and challenging on your facilities and your staff, I cannot thank you enough for all of the good that your church has done through the years by your willingness to open your doors to us.

Our Al-Anon Family Groups are open to people of any faith or of none whose lives have been affected by the problem drinking of a relative or friend.  Each Saturday morning we have approximately 35 members in attendance, some of whom have been around since this meeting began in the 1970s, and some of whom are brand new and in a great deal of distress. Some people come from just around the corner, and some travel for an hour or more to attend the meeting.  Just walking into the room that you so generously make available for us to rent each week allows me to breathe deeply and re-connect to my Higher Power, whom I choose to call God, in a way that has made a tremendous difference in my life, and therefore in the lives of all of my family members.

It occurred to me today that it was time for me to thank you and the wonderful people of University United Methodist Church for giving us Al-Anon members the opportunity to gather for our primary purpose:  to help families and friends of problem drinkers.  In Al-Anon we have no president or designated spokesperson, so my message to you today is not sent on behalf of our fellowship or our group, only on behalf of myself.  Please pass my sincere thanks along to your congregation, and let them know that their generosity and hospitality over these many years has been an incredible witness of the love of Jesus Christ to our greater community, and for that I am deeply grateful.

In gratitude,

A

You may have noticed that our Courtyard Pond is without fish at the moment. We have been having an issue with our water and we are now working on cleaning out and fixing our pond so that later we can add in fish again. We ask that you please DO NOT drop off your koi or goldfish in our pond as the water currently will not support fish. Thank you!
