Apply for Funding from Ontario Sailing

Ontario Sailing is very pleased to announce that our members can apply to us for funding up to $2000 for a grass roots program or event that will benefit growth within our sport.

Supported by a donation from the former Huntsville Sailing Club, this fund will be open to member clubs, schools and camps of Ontario Sailing.
 

Programs that could be considered include:

• New youth programming
• Programs for youth/adults with a disability
• Capital work to benefit grass roots at your organization
• Hosting of a program or event that will help grow your club/school /camp 

A simple email stating the following information is required

1. The intended need for the funds
2. The amount requested up to $2000
3. Approval of your board to apply for the monies (letter signed by the Commodore)
4. Name, address, club contact information
5. You agree to Ontario Sailing highlighting your project on our website and social media 

In order to apply you must be

1. A member in good standing with Ontario Sailing (current membership paid up).
2. A not-for-profit or charity
3. Agree to write a short report after the money has been used
4. Recognize the support of Ontario Sailing on your website
5. Due date is July 15th 2015 by 4pm 

Up to $2000 is available for each of the next 4 years (total of $8000). Consideration for projects over a two year period can be made.

The decision of an Ontario Sailing Board appointment committee will be final.

The panel may choose to fund multiple applications.

The "Rhoda's KIDS" Bursary Fund supports the development of sailors aged 10 to 16 years old who reside in Ontario who demonstrate a keen enthusiasm for learning to sail.

ABOUT RHODA IRONSIDE:

 

Rhoda Ironside passed away in November of 2011. However, Rhoda's spirit remains strong and vibrant at in the Thornbury/Meaford communities where she and her husband Derry started Sail Georgian Bay over a decade ago.

 

Rhoda was the volunteer founder and director of Sail Georgian Bay. Rhoda clearly touched many people's lives - especially the hundreds of children and teens who attended and continue to attend Sail Georgian Bay every summer. Her deep passion for sailing and skiing was infectious; her commitment to making a difference was unstoppable and her ability to being a person of her word was unwavering. Many will miss Rhoda's wit, tenacity and radiant smile.

 

In the years leading up to the creation of Sail Georgian Bay, Rhoda was involved in grassroots sailing programs for several decades helping with a Learn to Sail program at Ontario Place with the creation of the Outer Harbour Sailing Federation and of Sail Toronto.  Rhoda hosted the Ontario Sailing BOOM program and ultimately Ontario Sailing assisted Rhoda in securing a Trillium grant to purchase a fleet of boats allowing her and Derry to run their own program.  The Ontario Sailing Presidents' Trophy was awarded to Rhoda in 1996, along with husband Derry Ironside and Jack Mansell for the Georgian Bay Sailing Association.  She was a long standing supporter of Ontario Sailing and served on the Board of Directors from 1995 - 2000.

 

"Rhoda's KIDS" Bursary Fund has been established in memory and honour of this amazing woman. Rhoda knew how all sports could make a significant impact on "KIDS" of any age. This fund supports a minimum of two youths per year who reside in Ontario. Recipients who are awarded the bursary ($300 per student per year) are requested to use the funds to pay for the registration fees at any Ontario-based Learn to Sail program.

 

Rhoda will be remembered by many as a sailor extraordinaire and artist.  "Rhoda was a tireless volunteer devoted to the promotion of the sport of sailing and especially to giving young people an opportunity to learn to sail.  I will miss her dearly." Al Will, Former Ontario Sailing Executive Director.
