Rural Healthcare Cluster
to Kick Off
CNA Training in Washington County

In December, SAWDC convened a group of healthcare employers in Washington, Clarke, and Choctaw counties to discuss and better understand the workforce needs and the challenges associated with being located in a rural community.

This group of employers has now been dubbed the Rural Healthcare Cluster (RHC), and, as a result of the leadership from Washington County Hospital and Nursing Home, Jackson Healthcare Facility, and Thomasville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, will be kicking off a training program for nursing assistants in Chatom, Alabama on March 6th.  Two valuable partners have been the Alabama Career Center-Jackson, who provided assistance in identifying candidates, and Bishop State Community College,  who is the training provider.

Pull of Gravity Screening Event

The Pull of Gravity screening event is a collaborative effort of Project H.O.P.E. (a re-entry council established by U.S. Attorney Kenyen Brown), the City of Mobile and the Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC) to highlight the difficulty of ex-offenders returning to the community and the community resources available to support them.

The event will be held at the Mobile Civic Center Theater on Monday, March 10th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Pull of Gravity is a documentary film, which accurately captures real experiences of individuals as they try to return to the community after a term of incarceration. The documentary film lasts approximately one hour. Following the screening of the film, a panel of experts engaged in re-entry efforts in the area will take the stage in order to discuss their re-entry efforts, including the importance of employment opportunities for ex-offenders after incarceration. We hope to see you at this important event!
