MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS
Happy Birthday,
We Love You!

Multnomah County Library, OR, is celebrating its 150th birthday by asking its community to write love letters to the oldest public library system west of the Mississippi River. People of all ages have been sharing their personal stories and giving thanks. Read the love letters.

Libraries Lead Early Learning

Cleveland Public Library, OH, is installing 54 new literacy stations with a mix of games and educational lesson plans for young children at 27 branches throughout the city. As Library Journal reports, "Public libraries are increasingly looking for ways - like through gamification - to support early learners from preschool age children to those in third grade. Through offering reading clubs and additional educational programming, libraries can support student learning outside of school, and CPL is...actively looking to increase its partnerships with local schools." Read the article.

Epicenters of Spelling

Howard County Library System, MD, and Kansas City Public Library, MO, lent their leadership to the hosting of spelling bees - a perennial test of literacy and tenacity. Kansas City's competition went viral and was picked up by media as far-flung as India and Pakistan. Many congratulations to this year's winners!
