Celebrate Independence Day at Lincoln Hills Golf Course

Enjoy a beautiful fireworks display this Friday, July 3 during the Birmingham Fireworks Show. The annual festivities will take place at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course located at Lincoln and Cranbrook on Friday, July 3rd. The gates will open to the public at 7 p.m. with the show starting at dusk, around 10 p.m. If there is inclement weather, the show will take place on Sunday, July 5 at the same time.

 

This is a great family event with no sparklers or alcohol allowed. The show will consist of over 1,300 shells ranging in size and color. This includes a fantastic grand finale with over 500 shells being fired. We look forward to celebrating with you! 

Deadline Approaches to File for Office

 

The deadline to file petitions to become a candidate for City Commission or Library Board is 4:00PM on July 21, 2015. Petitions forms can be obtained at the City Clerk's Office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Movies & Concerts in Birmingham's Parks
 

Outdoor Movies and Entertainment in Booth Park 


Enjoy a movie under the stars and pre-show entertainment that's carefully selected to appeal to children and adults alike. In addition to the award-winning play equipment at Booth Park, attendees will enjoy free pre-show activities at 7:30 p.m., followed by popular family movies at dusk. Tangled will be the featured presentation on Friday, July 17. In case of inclement weather, movies will be held at Seaholm High School Gymnasium. Monitor 'Enjoy Birmingham NOW' on Facebook for weather updates. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and head to Booth Park (located on the west side of North Old Woodward, just north of Harmon Street).

Concerts begin at 7 p.m. in Shain Park. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the music! The concert hotline is updated at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. In case of inclement weather, call 248.530.1650 to check on the status of a concert.

Birmingham Historical Museum Unveils Commemorative CREEM Sign



The Birmingham Historical Museum & Park recently unveiled a new commemorative sign outside the former CREEM Magazine office at 187 South Old Woodward in Downtown Birmingham, adjacent to the Birmingham 8 Theater. Through a joint effort between the museum, the Birmingham Historical Museum Board, and The City of Birmingham, the sign was erected to identify the historical significance of the site. This coincides with the museum's ongoing effort to collect and preserve the legacy of "America's Only Rock and Roll Magazine."

Quarton Lake Water Lilies Scheduled for 7/2 Treatment

The City of Birmingham has been issued a permit by the Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) for performing aquatic nuisance plant control at Quarton Lake using approved aquatic herbicides. Treatment of the water lilies at Quarton Lake was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, but was postponed due to potential weather conditions. Treatment of the lake has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 2. Tri-County Aquatics, Inc. will be performing this work. They will be posting notices at and around the lake near the
treatment areas before the work begins. A 24 hour water use restriction is recommended after the lake is treated.

State Police Encourages Vacation Emergency Preparedness

With the weather warming and schools out for the summer, the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) is encouraging citizens to plan and prepare for emergencies that may happen while on vacation. Nominations Sought for 20th Annual Birmingham/Bloomfield Cultural Arts Award

 

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Birmingham/Bloomfield Cultural Arts Awards. Jointly sponsored by The Community House, the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers, the Birmingham/Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC) and the Cultural Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield, the public is invited to nominate anyone who has been influential in furthering the arts in the communities of Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and Franklin. This year represents the 20th year that the Cultural Arts Award has been granted. Download the nomination form and submit it to Marcy Heller Fisher at [email protected] (or fax to 866-403-6794) by July 15, 2015.   

Reminder: Keep Grass & Weeds Below Eight Inches


 

To ensure our city looks well-maintained, the City's ordinance requires grass and weeds to be kept below eight inches high. Poison ivy, ragweed or any other poisonous, noxious or unhealthy growths are prohibited. Those in violation of this ordinance will have their lawn mowed and will be required to pay for the service. Access the entire Grass and Noxious Weed ordinance (Sec. 118-66) on the City's web site.

Water Rockets: A Father and Child Experiment

Saturday, July 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or

Saturday, July 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Father and child teams will construct water-powered rockets made from recycled 2-liter soda bottles and launch them on the Library's lawn. Participants should bring two empty 2-liter soda bottles.
