JOURNEY SCHOOL: WHERE CYBER-BULLYING & PLAGIARISM ARE BECOMING HISTORY!
|
We always knew our Digital Media Literacy course, initiated in 2010 by Diana Graber, was ahead of its time. We are now in our 4th year of this pioneering project that teaches middle school students how to be ethical digital citizens. Each week, students learn essential 21st Century skills, such as how to be savvy on social media--BEFORE they are equipped with powerful technologies like iPhones, tablets, and laptops.
As a result of the project, no incidents of cyber-bullying and plagiarism have been reported for approximately two years. Educators and law makers across the country are catching on fast to the benefits of our approach:

STEAM EDUCATION IN ACTION
(SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, ARTS, TECHNOLOGY, & MECHANICS)
|
Grade 8: Students were recently invited to LegoLand's 'Green City' to learn the basics of robotics and engineering in a hands-on, fun way. Together, classmates solved challenges and built imaginative creations. GRADE 7: 7th graders are engrossed in a unique physics block that challenges students to prove their understanding of nature's laws in the outdoors, including the Law of the Lever and Mechanical Advantage. GRADE 6: Students share gardening best practices with guests and parents each Wednesday in the Green Heart Garden. Research proves that students who garden are HAPPIER, HEALTHIER, and SMARTER!
GRADE 5: Students will position rainwater harvesting barrels around campus thanks to the Hurley Company, Earthroots, and the Environmental Nature Center. Thousands of gallons of water will be captured from classroom rooftops and utilized to grow food! |
